• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

phil's smallblock s-dime

i have no idea what kinda bars man lol. this truck is a mystery. do either of you two know if it's possible to have some kinda fuel gauge with a fuel cell? that would be a nice thing to have. and i'll probably have to try the reluctor ring on the tailshaft to get the speedo to work

guess you're gonna have to do some research to watch up ur traction bars but they are probably lakewoods or something. Most fuel cells use your 80 ohm sending units. who needs a speedo lol

that what i say, but nobody wants to ride in it because it doesn't have one lol. i know how fast i'm going, 1800 is 55, 2100ish is 65, and it doesn't matter on backroads because i would be speeding anyways lol.

oh definitely, i know i don't have a full blown race motor but it's got torque and a decent powerband. and a 4000rpm redline lol.

i dont think so, i think it's just the setup. the motor i have looks just like the motor you pulled out of your truck before the new one went in, it's all factory i'm guessing. did that one spin to 7800?

My old engine still runs and revs good to like 6500 I didn't want to go much past that point being as I didn't know anything about the engine but I am cofident if you got a streetfire distributor that it would operk right up. Could be in the cam too. Do you know Timmy and Phil from Ohio?

hmmm... what trans and rear end were you running? you're gonna have to be more specificwith the names too lol. are they on this forum?

i'll look them up and find out. i'll have to look into that. i'm sure the carb could use adjusted, it bogs alot. i was reading about it the other night and read that it could use a new spring on the rear venturis or whatever their called. i'm new to this carb stuff lol.

back from the dead because i'm preparing to pull the motor. i figured this would probably be a better place than the thread i posted in the lounge.

couple questions:

the fuel pump looks like it's in the way of the passenger side motor mount bolt, will this be a problem?

how in the hell do you get to all the bell housing bolts? that's tighter than... well, nevermind.

will the starter have to be disconnected in any way, shape, or form?

do i need a jack or something to support the transmission once the motor's disconnected?

i want to attatch the hoist to the heads, what's the best way to do this? haven't really found anything specific on that.

so maybe that's a lot of questions. sorry :( but i'm pretty much a total n00b when it comes to this

update:
it's back on jackstands, still can't keep oil in it. i let it warm up the other day because i hadn't started it in a few weeks, and once it warmed up i watched oil drip out from the rear main/oil pan seal. went bat sh!t crazy with silicone in a last ditch attempt to not have to pull the motor, and we'll find out tomorrow if it worked.

i also found out where the trans is losing all it's fluid from: the part where the speedometer cable goes into the...whatever you wanna call it. this also means that i found out i have a speedometer cable already hooked up. :th_thumb-up:

and i also lost the wingnut to my air filter. so... sh!t.

yeah, it didn't work. still leakin. where's the best place to hook a hoist to, i've heard intake bolts and somewhere in the head

If your trans is a th350 then the trans pan will be square with one corner cut off it so it will have 5 sides to it. If you post a pic of the pan i could probably tell you what you have.
Your carb is probably a 600 and not a 650 if the numbers on the front of it are 1406 or 1407 its a 600.
If the motor is out of something 73-77 you'll eventually want to do some head work to it as they are pretty restrictive when they started doing that smog **** to them. Your shifting at 4,000 because your kickdown cable needs adjusted it's easy to do but i wouldn't mess with it until you have it running and driving good.
To pull the motor there is usually two spots to hook to on the intake manifold but someone probably left them off when they put the motor in. Next time i'm at mom and dad's i'll see if i can find the piece's i thought i saw them the last time i was over there.
If you ever need any help with it and wanna drive a little bit i could help you out your only about an hour from me.
