Performance Advice

ok i have a 99grand prix gt i plan on having a gtp engine and transmission swapped in a couple weeks what good performance upgrades can i have the mechanic put on while hes swapping out the engine and tranny at the time that can save me money down the road from having him have too pull out the tranny or lift the engine out to put on the parts again

TDCRacing intake. They are on sale.

Welcome To TDC Racing

An intake is a good first starting mod whether you want an extreal or mild setup down the road. It will give you a noticable difference in power also. Which is probably what your looking for.

Yeah i might just get a k and n air filter til i can afford the cold air intake because the engine and tranny swap is going to take up pretty much most of my money and i was thinkin about the cam but thats really expensive for jus a lil horsepower valve springs push rods retainers for an additional 20 hp or more. My mechanic was sayin i should probably do a smaller pulley reprogram the pcm and add a shift kit could help out alot and not hurt my pockets to much at the same time.

you need more mods to go with that smaller pulley. 180 stat, cold air intake, 1 degree colder plugs, down pipe, front plog, and then scan your car for knock first before putting that pulley on

It already shows your mechanic doesn't know anything...you can't just tune the PCM and drop a pulley size. That's noob sh*t. And a cam is good for more than 20hp I can vouch...I bet I added 50+ Horsepower when I did my cam swap...headers/LS1 TB/custom tune/ported supercharger/3.4" to a 3.2" pulley/XP Cam. Cams love to breathe...if your not going to take the time to mod safe and correctly then don't mod at all and save your motor.

No offense but that seems about right thats until i found out that the mechanic used to work at milzeysmotorsports and specialized in grand prixs. People heard about him b4 said he builded 9 10, and 11, second 1/4 mile grand prixs quiet a few times b4. So professional mechanic for grand prixs vs blue gtp91 i think ill stay with the pros and he did say 180 t stat forgot to metion that 1. Thanks for the help tho

it depends what youre doing. just a tune does not warrent a pulley drop. if the guy says he can take the stock car and drop pullies with just a tune then he's mentally retarded.

A thermostat isn't going to help any either...you you go ahead and drop a pulley size...probably a 3.4" since that is the most common error for people that don't listen. With a FWI or CAI, 180* T-Stat, a Shift Kit, and a Tuned PCM...a stock GTP would eat you alive. But since I haven't been through 3 motor builds...I know nothing. You go right ahead. It is your money to waste. I won't say anything anymore to help you...

you need to get the air in and out before you drop a pulley size...........either get headers or powerlog w/ downpipe including u-bend delete..............read the modding your 3800 safely thread and when you are done, read it again.

U seem like u know your cars THAT IS UNTIL U SAID THIS my grand prix gt now can almost hang with my friends 2001 gtx supercharged so im pretty sure if i supercharge mine add a reprogrammed pcm and a shift kit yeah that alone would be game over for a ''Stock GTP''.

And your not helping at all instead of giving advice youre leavin smart ass comments about people askin for advice
