"Perfect Shift" Indicator wont illuminate

Grand Prix1

New member
:( Let me say first that I tried it in both position push button in and out. And the indicator still wont Illuminate. Could it be a cable disconnected or loose. It was working about a week ago but now it's not. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Could it be something simple like a bad bulb.

Hi, welcome to the intro section were we would like to know a little about you and your car.

When you are ready to post about a problem you are having, please ensure you put in the year and model of your car so that we can give you the best information and diagnosis.

Sorry I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and the problem is my "Perfect Shift" light wont illuminate. I believe the Perfect Shift is when the button on the shift lever is depressed. It is in Perfomance Shift Mode when the button is released it might be reversed. I cant tell my wont illuminate at all. The guy I purchased the car from did do some Mods to the car. Carbon Fiber Hood, Headers, and the vehicle was was lowered and Performance Struts installed. And now I cant contact him to ask if he disconnected the button.

No worries..you don't have a Perfect Shift button or light. Problem solved.:th_thumbsup-wink:

Actually it's the performance shift. I'd pop the console lid and check for ground on one side of the connector. If that exists short the two wires together and see if the light kicks on. Most likley it's a switch or bad wire. Changing the bulb would require pulling the cluster, which is also not too bad.

But since there's almost no difference in the two modes, it's doubtful you can feel the difference and are positive the bulb is burned out.

i've got a 98 regal but im sure its the same button on the shifter, so my button stays in when the perf button/light is on, and sticks out a bit more when off.

i was stuck driving with out a cluster for a month and my knee hits the side of the sifter, so i looked real close to if it was on or off., and i can tell when it in performance mode or not just by how it shifts.

i have 98 gtp to an i have the same problem, the light worked fine for performance shift mode then it just died, im going to check the wiring to the bulb

the two gtp's i have had never had the dash one
but popping open the cluster is easy peasy to change a 192
but i always go off the dic

LOL @ ''perfect shift''. I've had a few different people see that light on in my GTP's and think it stood for perfect and not performance.

with tuning... it very well can be a perfect shift button. all depends on your deff of perfect! tire screeching or grandma shift

My GTP doesn't have performance shift.... the lights are there but no button... I don't need it anyway though...
