Paint honeycomb wheels black?

Alright, well I have the stock silver honeycomb looking wheels on my GTP. I really really don't like them, and am planning on buying some stock 5 spokes or torque stars VERY soon. But in the meantime - what do you guys think about painting the honeycomb wheels black? I think it would look a bit better.... I tried to "photoshop" them black, but didn't do a very good job.

Just wondering if anyone here has any experience painting the rims and what kind of paint to use? I'm not looking for a fantastic job here, so I'm not going to powder coat them. Or does anyone have any pics of black honeycomb wheels?

Thanks

paint just the middles, leave a lip. then they will look better.

you can use any high temp paint and then clear it if you want.

Good call on the silver lip. Anybody ever do this before or have pics?

I really want to know what its going to look like before I do it.

you could get a set of first gen gp crosslaces and paint the centers black, I think it looks pretty awesome, and you can fit a wider tire

i contemplated doing this very thing with my crosslace wheels, but then i got a good deal on the 5 spokes i wanted. i do concur, leave the outer lip unpainted. (and if you have the silver ABS center caps, leave those silver also. you'll want to scuff the clearcoat on the face of the wheel before painting. duplicolor makes some wheel paint, too... but not sure if it comes in black. if it doesnt, a good high temp engine paint will do fine... but for either option, multiple coats of clear will help protecting.

if you want an idea of what the rim looks like, i know there was someone over on the other board that had done this with 1st gen fwd gp wheels, but the design is slightly different.

the first gen crosslaces look way better. the 97-?? ones have a bubble to them while the earlier ones are flat. and they are 16x8 instead of 16x6.5. id rock a set of them just for the ability to run bigger tires and them having a lower offset.

I had them painted black years ago on my 92 GP SE I had with silver lip. Looked great. No pics though sorry. I like the earlier crosslace wheels alot better, especially the wider TGP wheels.
