P0171, Fuel Injector O rings?

Ok, I thought it was over I thought it was safe but nooo my car still wants to give me a hard time. Anyways, did my lower intake manifold gasket job like 2 weekish ago. Looks like everything went well but just in the past night I got the p0171 code. First I thought it might be from the cross over piping leaking. After messing with that I came to the conclusion that was not the case. So like everyone says I grabbed a can of brake cleaner and started spraying. First let me tell y'all how much of a can of bull crap about making the engine rev. Even when I pooped off a line and sprayed some in all it did was bog my engine down not rev it up. Any how, on to my findings. After spraying a can and a half i get to the front right injector (like if I'm standing in front of the car looking under the hood, the injector row closet to me and to the right) it bogs down when I get the spraying around the injector. Tripled checked, this is the only area that does it. So now first, yes I reused the old injector O rings, Yes I now regret it. Now that thats out of the way, a leaking injector Oring could be the cause of the P0171 code right? Also what injector O ring is the replacement for my 03 GT? Rock auto is saying FEL-PRO Part # ES71190, is that right?

Now when I go to replace them, Just pop em on, spray some silicone lube and push the injector back on right? Am I gotta have to pull the front and back row to get off the one? I cant remember how much flex there was between the injector rows....

you dont use brake cleaner, your supposed to use carb and choke cleaner, or starting fluid. your engine wont run on brake cleaner, but will on carb and choke cleaner, thats why it bumps the idle up. brake cleaner will make it bog/stall.

autozone carries the o rings, they sell them in packs of 4. you want to cut the old one off for ease of removal, then oil the new O ring and roll it on.

id call the store before goning there, its hit or miss if they are in stock, i had to call 3 stores till i found one that had them in stock.

I use brake cleaner all the time Doggster.. all the time. Works like a champ for keeping an engine running or finding a vacuum leak.

If you did this part of the job and skimped, what else did you skimp on? TB gasket? If you would like more insight into the code, search on it with my name. Learn about your EGR tube you probably buggered up.

Hard words G but your right, I should of replaced em and now I'm paying for it. As far as other stuff thats it as far as I know. I did not see a TB gasket though, looked like it was built into the new plastic manifold. Also for the EGR tube, I just beat in the new one and so far its been good. I got one of them plastic manifolds with the metal O ring with the smaller EGR tube. Seemed kinda simple, nothing to mess up there I hope....

Off to pick up some O rings, be back soon

Wasn't being harsh, was asking the question. I often don't pay attention to which section we are in,. You had a fresh TB gasket in the manifold, that's good. The EGR tube I'm talking about isn't the one you beat like a bad child. It's the one that bolts to the LIM.

When P0171 plagues you another week or so.. you'll find out what I'm talking about. :th_king-evil: Been there, solved that... can't tell you how many times.

Are you talking about the goldish tube thats under the TB? Hope I didn't mess that up.

Ok, new injector O rings in. No more reaction of any type when I soak it with brake cleaner. So thats one thing fixed. I have no way to clear the codes and the SES light is still on, code reader coming tomorrow. I do have some for info though, I thought I had a bad idle pulley, replaced it. Still got this high pitched screeching noise. I toke the belt off completely and its still happens. Its not a consistent sound but kinda uhh fast repeating screech. It sounds to high pitch to be IAC that is if the GM IAC sounds anything like the ford one that went bad on me. Does this put any insight into the issue?

Yeah, that gold tube has a crack in it. Just letting you know. :th_king-evil:

Check your PCV. Should be an o-ring below it and one on the cap.

I sat there and looked over that thing for hours and saw no crack in it, after I mess with the PCV valve ill take a look. Speaking of which how do I check the PCV valve? I never heard one make a sound like this...

Ahem I think your right, I just googled for the signs of a bad PVC, one of them is when the oil cap is off the engine wants to stall. Well time for ANOTHER TRIP TO THE PARTS STORE

<~~~ See what that says over there? It says BillBoost. Just sayin.

And VVVV see Barney in a Bonneville sig pic. Another key sign that BillBoost posted in your thread.

Whatever you throw at me, likely ....not the first time.

Well sure was a PCV issue, turns out the car had no PCV at all! I don't know how the hell I messed this but there ya go. I assume this is how it goes in? This could also be the cause of my code, after fixing something like this, how long does it take for a code to go away by its self?

you should be able to take the neg cable or pos cable off the battery for 30 minutes and the code should reset, if you have a problem still the light will come right back on or in a day or so.

i know this works for 97 and up, it should work on 96 and older as well. being your obd1

Mines an 03 so its OBD2. Had mine un hooked for a while and the computer didn't forget. Didn't even loose my radio stations lol. Fast question, by running the engine for like 2 weeks without a PCV did I hurt it any?

damn, i got you and another post mixed up......it will reset as i said for sure then. and will come back if the problem is still there.

EDIT: leave the battery off for a solid 30 minutes, the radio pre sets always hold in my car, the clock will be wrong tho.

Thanks, clock never reset so I know I have reset the computer yet. Ill leave it be till my code reader comes tomorrow. One question is, I'm due for inspection this month. I know they don't like when you clear codes before hand, how long do I need to drive it so they can't tell I cleared em?

Below the pcv is an o-ring, the pcv, then a spring on the cap and an o-ring on the cap.

Three drive cycles for P0171 to clear itself. See the post I have about drive cycles.

Thanks, I would of never got this fixed without you! I'm gonna go check out drive cycles and see whats up. Also just wounding if I hurt anything without the PCV in place?

Alright, ECU is showing all systems are good to go after resetting the code. Looks like it was the PCV or the Injector O ring. Thanks dudes would of never got that fixed.
