Oil Pan Fun

Hey im new to the forum and i have a 02 grand prix gt. changing my oil and now the drain bolt is just spinning. im pretty sure that the tack welds on the inside holding the nut in broke. I really really dont want to change the oil pan cause it looks like a *****. Can any body help me out?

Does the drain plug look like there are no threads up by the head of the bolt? My buddies gt had that happen luckily for him he was at my house doing the lim gasket and i had a short block sitting in the corner with a good drain plug.

I couldnt really see. Im gonna put it up on a hoist tomorrow. With a camera im going to put it through the sensor hole and see whats going in. I really hope the plug is just stripped

Use a screwdriver or something to apply outward pressure on the plug as you try and unthread it. Maybe if it turns easy enough, try a pair of vice grips, or clamp on the vice grips and then use a crescent on the vice grips to apply the turning force needed as you pull outward on the vice grips.

You could always vacuum the oil out through the dip-stick hole and change it that way. This will buy you some time 'til you can figure something out.

It does sound like your plug is stripped and someone put it in anyway. Good way to blow a motor. Try an impact with a screwdriver behind the bolt.

In case you haven't seen what is on the inside, here is a pic of one I had in my garage. The bung looks like it is soldered on the inside and this is what may be spinning. If this is the case, you can get a good high voltage MIG welder and weld right through the pan and onto the bung.

Oh thanks so much. Ive been trying to find a pic of the inside everywhere. Ya and thats what i was thinking about doing was welding it through the pan. Do you think it would work?
