The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
Got it home tonight, I think I found the problem. There's a lot of seeped oil on the oil pan and trans pan. I noticed a bubbled part of the oil pan, and tapped it with a screw driver, popped a hole right through it. Looks like the pans rusted through and it was probably run dry. Is this a common problem on these newer motors?
Is $1200 a decent price on a drop in L32 with 99k on it?
Just like some 04 L26's having L36 rods and all 04 engines having plastic LIM gaskets, some 05, all after having metal?
How about the switch in 06 to metal water pump and front timing cover gaskets?
And the S/C gasket change in 06?
Bio: 1200 for an L32 isn't terrible. If you went L36 you'd have to add on the blower, heads, lim and gaskets/bolts to get there. Sure wouldn't be $900, but it'd be at least half that. Save $300 or spend that $300 and get much better rods.
I like the idea of picking up a fully assembled / drop in engine. I'm also considering just tossing another L26 in there, but I know I won't be happy with it after my last few cars worked so well. The $1200 motor is from Morad, so I'm pretty confident that it's going to be in good shape.
I'm planning on re-using the Trans, harness and PCM from the GT though. Does anyone have a cal sitting around for an L32 swap with the GT trans? I'm going to assume it's going to be about the same as a top swapped car would be.
Yeah, I know there's no guarantee that the motors perfect, but I trust that if something is bad, it'll be made right. I've known Ed since before he parted out his first Grand Prix... heh
Only thing I'd seriously do is clean it up, paint it if you want, change all the top end gaskets regardless, remove the knock sensors and flush it out...etc.
