OFFICIAL: Pontiac is Dead as of now.

Pontiac was GM's 3rd best selling company last year behind GMC and Chevy. Cadillac was 5th.

Pontiac INVENTED the muscle car with the debut of the GTO back in '64. And REDIFINED it when they released the Trans AM Super Duty. It makes no sense to drop it.

GM was talking about turning it into a niche and it's fate still unannounced.

Have a look at this.
Grand Prix Net: Goodbye Pontiac

Cadillac is only 5th because of its market. The luxury market is smaller than the mainstream market. It's still more profitable than Pontiac and isn't directly competing with other GM products.

Brings to mind... "what have they done for us lately?" You can't hold on to a brand because of what it did nearly 50 years ago. It's fizzling out these days and GM is in no position to be nostalgic right now.

Valid point...:th_depressed:
True, they did drop BOTH of those models.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see Pontiac go. If anything, I would love to see the G8 and Solstice stick around since those are the only somewhat unique cars Pontiac currently has. Sell them on the Buick/GMC lots or tuck them in across from the Corvettes on the Chevy lots.

At least that option makes it much more likely for it to swing to a full brand again.

When my GP is paid off I'm thinking of financing a G8. You think some Pontiac models will be rebadged into other companies? Kind of like what happened to Plymoth, Dodge got the Neon and Chrysler got the Prowler for a year or two, I believe.

I've heard rumors of such, but nothing concrete. I heard the G8 could become the next "Impala" and another Chevy name will take the current Impalas spot of full size FWD sedan. The new Impala would be a niche product.

Pontiac Statement Re: Media Speculation

Contrary to media speculation, General Motors has not announced any changes to its long-term viability plan or to the future status of any of its brands. GM is continuing to review its restructuring plan to go further and faster and best ensure its future success. Additional information will be released as any decisions are finalized.

All hope might not be lost!!! :th_thumb-up:

Several media outlets have claimed this, however monday might come and go with no talk of this, its set of early next week( as in the next 4 1/2 days) for a press conference, and its still looking or did look as to what brands are performing the least. Also the money factor, if its not making money they will more then likely axe it along with others.

GM should just fold, or sell what remaining it has to HOLDEN, its already a global platform and has well established sales in most countries. We are dumb, we import to export to import and sell( look at your build sheets on your G8's) its just plain bad business on GM's part.

How can GM sell to Holden when GM owns most of Holden? They're just another division of GM like Chevy or Pontiac.

If they close down Pontiac... then GM has shot themselves in the foot. If they close it down I will not buy another GM car. I will go european.

I wouldn't. Think about it, parts will be unavailable/discontinued and your stuck with a worthless broken Pontiac.

The Holden Commodore will still be made in Australia. Mots of the parts interchange except cosmetic stuff. And you can still buy parts for Oldsmobiles and even older discontinued cars. Hell, you can by parts for a DMC-12 still.

I guess you have a good point. I wonder though about certain things, that would be pontiac grand prix, g8, gto specific. DMC is back btw, Deloreans are being made again.
