upon a rescent roadtrip i noticed my car lost od and i noticed a whine coming from the front if i exceed 45 mph. also the past couple days it has slipped upon take off a few times and its not throwning any codes... checked fluid which looked good except there was some bubbles on the stick... what i am wondering is should i pull the side cover and try replaceing the shift and tcc solenoids or should i not waste the money and just find a used transmission.

depending on the miles you have, it may be best to get another trans.

4 th gear burns out in the older models.

and if its slipping, its on it way to its grave.

You could change the fluid and filter and get a little more life out of it but it's probably on it's way to the scrapyard.

Whine from a trans is typically the pump not getting enough fluid. This will also cause slip, because trans is basically a big conglomeration of hydraulics.

The bubbles is often a bad channel plate gasket, which would let pressure bleed off and cause the issues you are mentioning. This gasket can be fixed along with the overdriver hub shaft (aka 4th clutch hub) by removing the side cover. It's tough to say w/o pressure testing etc, but it's very likely the gasket went.

If I were going in to fix this, I'd change the channel plate gaskets, epc/pcs (same part) and the 4th hub shaft all at the same time.
