No first gear

i have an 04 gtp comp g with 134k miles. when i put it into drive nothing happens, engine just revs up. When i put it in manual mode it will kick into first gear but when i hit the gas it slips. once i get it moving and into second gear i can then put it back into drive and it will go into 3rd and 4th fine. I was low on fluid so i filled it up. I am assuming that is why i am having this issue now. Any idea's on maybe what part is bad? i was told it could be the forward band??? i really don't want to do a complete rebuild if i don't have to.
 


To me it sounds like the forward band let go.

IF you got no D and it slips and skips into second when in manual mode, to me its saying you need a rebuild.
 
yeah im sure it is completely filled up now. as for the rebuild i really didn't want to go that route but from what everyone has been saying i think that is the way to go. i have one quote of $1550 and will take about a week. to me that sounds a little high price and a long time. What would a decent price be for this?
 


Does sound like a forward band. FWIW the forward band is about the second thing to go into the casing. Which is why a full build is always suggested. Since you have it all apart and out, may as well do it because the labor to pull it all apart isn't much different when you add in the new parts.
