New wheels...speedo affected?

So i just got my first set of rims. Upgraded from 16's to 17's. Got a lower pro tire on there too. went from stock 225/60/r16 to 215/50/r17. The change in height seems negligible as the newer tires sit about 1/4 - 1/2 inch lower than the originals. Question being, will that little of a change throw off my speedometer? And if so by much?

Any time you don't stay with the same diameter of the entire wheel and tires combined your speedo will be off.

Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

That's a better tire calculator.

Usually you wanna stay within 3% of your stock diameter Rim/Tire combo.. What you have on is not only too small and probably rides pretty rough.. but it's 4.36% too small.

It says your speedometer will be off by 4.556%.

So if your speedometer says 63 mph, you're actually going 60 mph.

235-55-17's are a nice size tire for 17's, they are nice and meaty and look great. They are only slightly bigger then stock diameter.

And being teh stock Bonneville size starting in 2000...they are a pain in teh azz to find sneakers for. At least if you want an all season at a decent price.

I was thinkin that too, as far as upgrading to 225 or 235/55 these tires just came as part of a package, rims and tires for 600. I'll get pics on in a bit but i do plan on getting bigger ones (and wider) next time around, but might as well wear these ones down first, yea?
