New GTP owner (Suggestions?)

Hey, My name is Mike and I'm a proud owner of a 98 gtp gold in color.

I purchased the car with 111k miles on it for only $1000.00 and everything is in pretty sweet condition, right now the car is in the garage on ramps. I have taken the battery out and noticed the battery tray was no good/destroyed by rust and acid. Also I removed the stock air box and the pcm is just chilling. The coolant light was on so I inspected and noticed sticky gewy stuff in the coolant tank, then I felt the hoses and they are squishy and breaking down from the inside out I assume.

I was gonna flush the radiator but instead for how cheap it is I decided to order all new cooling components (Hoses, radiator and a 99 gtp tank) now I can mount the tank on the other side and maybe shove a K&N filter in the bumper. I hope most of the sticky stuff will be gone. The only possible way any is left is in the engine.. Maybe I should still flush once the new stuff is installed?

I also am looking into new fuel rails since the stock ones look like **** over the super charger but haven't had much luck other than spending $700 or so!? is there any cheaper ways of doing this?

This is pretty much where I'm at.. Everything is stock right now I'm just doing the cai and gonna daily drive it for fun in the summer. I am planning on slowly modding and learning as I go.. Youtube and forums are my only way of learning at this time and seem to help a whole lot.

What's wrong with your stock fuel rails?

Did they look like this?

You can make them look like this really easy.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your best bet is to replace all your cooling components like you said. New radiator, hoses, coolant tank, and might as well do a new thermostat while you're at it. When you have it all torn apart try to flush the block out as best you can to try to get all the gunk out of there. Does it look like the coolant is mixed with oil? You might want to look into replacing the Lower intake manifold gasket if your oil is mixing with coolant. The pcm is fine just sitting on that ledge after you take the airbox out. I just ziptied mine down and its fine like that. The DIY intake is the best option. Just some home depot pvc pipe and a rubber coupler and a $40 cone filter and you're good to go. There's tons of info on here that'll help you out as you go. The search bar is kind of hidden up towards the top but you can find anything you need through there. If you can't find it feel free to ask.

Yep mine are like that, all stock. I guess I shouldn't hate on stock I just prefer nothing running over the supercharger cause I have seen it done and it looks so clean. Yours look pretty sweet for stock though. I need to get into cleaning up My engine bay and the corrosion all over the engine/supercharger.. I heard this is the stuff to clean it: $(KGrHqVHJCEFHBBPr!EEBR)bTWC2+!~~60_3.JPG(88861803 - GM Top Engine And Fuel Injector Cleaner - 16 oz. Container) I was thinking about buying some on ebay for 20$. What did you use to clean the rails?

The coolant looked fine for the most part besides a little stuff floating in it, there is a coating in the colant tank and everything else I assume, like a sticky residue. I purchased a K&N filter im gonna stuff in the bumper if it'll fit.. Thanks.

Just a little bit of elbow grease. lol

I sanded them all down and polished them out with aluminum polish. On that big disk (i dunno what it's called I have been drink already) I plan on getting some type of Pontiac decal for it.

suggestion: rebuild the transmission.
actually, that will be mandatory:th_depressed:

other than that......love these cars. enjoy:th_thumbsup-wink:

True it will need a little body work but my gf's father is a body man with 25yrs + exp, everything seems solid besides the rockers thankfully.
Thanks for the links.. loads of info there! will read up a bit later.. I do notice fluid deposits here and there so gonna look into them with this write up.

Gold Car with dark interior....Lucky Ass. Wish my interior was like yours.

Yea the interior is mint, a couple creases in the driver seat of course but damn near mint and I never realized how hot that seat warmer gets holy ****! my ass was on fire.

No worries... You can go from this...

to this...

In no time at all...

That is one sexy engine bay. Might have to pm you so I can steal some ideas soon ;)

Hahaha, lol, no problem. Like many here, I'd be willing to help and is what makes this a great forum.

But really, everyone makes it their own way. There are so many threads with great engine bays. Look around and get ideas as I had done prior to jumping in. Don't be afraid to try new things even though most things have been tried already :D
