Need some help on rebuild

So i removed the front valve covers and and removed the rockers and then tightened them back down to see if all the valves wold open and they all did. But the car still wont start....could compression be a result?? I installed the heads correctly and in sequence but could they be the problem also?

Well if all of the valves are opening when you tighten the rockers down, there is probably an issue with the lifters.

If all the valves are open, you'll get no compression, and it wont start.

No picture but i had the engine on a stand and made sure the dots aligned up perfectly. Double roller Timing set w/balancer gear removed and double ed the cover gaskets.

Matt so should i tear apart the upper part of the engine again and check the lifters?

I don't want to be the one to tell you to do it, namely because I had this happen to me.

Never bothered to figure it out.

Sold everything.

Bought a stock car.

Like I said, really don't want to be the guy to tell you what to do, but I'd suggest looking at the lifters.

Stock or LS7 lifters will apparently tell you really quick.

Which is strange, because you and Matt had these issues but all the locals here never did.

Hitman also had the lifters go fubar. Seems like the older lifters are the same as 3.1L motors..and we know 3.1's are full of fail.

Compression test.

So I took the old lifters from the front heads out...how do I test to see if they failed or are bad?

Well, I'd post pics of them.

They're pretty straight forward...they're either in craptastic shape or they work.

And how do I go about doing a compression test? Im not sure if this was the cause but when I took the supercharger and I/c core out....turns out some of the LIM bolts were loose even though I torqed them down.
