• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Need serious advice about my nightmare car

dsmuts thanks, so it's probably an 01 engine as well. Dbextreme, none of those plugs are hooked up. It has no ABS, the dude cut the sensor totally off and it's not hooked up. The round plug is the old trans plug, and the little black one could very well be for brakes but the brakes work fine, maybe traction control or something?

Ok, here's what I'm seeing. You should add a TB screen back on the TB. The maf can get wonky readings without it. Some can run that way..but overall most find it beneficial to have the screen.

Let's say the drivetrain is 2001. Your PCM is a 90-02 pcm. What year programming was used.. eh we don't know exactly. It's not a big deal either way because this engines/transmissions will work on the GTP programming from any of those years.

This leads us to what should have been done to make the harness work. The 97 harness would definately work if a few changes were made.

Changes:
MAP sensor was on passenger end of UIM in the NA motor and is now a different connector on back of SC at map sensor. The wiring colors should stay the same, just move and change connectors.
Boost Control Soleniod: This may or may not be wired up. If so, there is one wire that goes to the pcm and the other wire IIRC is fed 12+ power off any pink wire on the harness. This does not need to be on the motor, you can run this based on vacuum only and be ok.
Trans connector: 4T60 uses 7 wires, 4T65 uses 12. Add the 5 wires, change the connector and you'd be all set.

Those are the only real additions. Then IIRC there are about 13 or so wires that are different at the pcm connectors from 97 to 98. Ensure those wires were moved and you should be all set to run any 98-02 pcm.

Me, I'd go through and clean up the prior owners mess.

I'm taking my current harness off right now.. I'll let you know tomorrow night but could you ship it on wednesday?

Looks to me like pulling that jacked up harness off and getting a gtp harness should fix all your problems...you will need to get an air filter box...that's where the computer goes into...it's to keep it from getting moist or to hot or wet i believe...correct me if i'm wrong on why the computer goes in the air filter box guys....

Thanks wavedout33, I know. I really should have one, I've been meaning to order an aftermarket one for a long time but I never got around to it. And BillBoost, I had the TB screen in, but I took it out to take the picture, also thanks for the assessment of the wiring. The changes look a lot more drastic I think because this guy did a ****ty job..

just get one from the junkyard if you can...cheap and it does the trick....unless your going to do cold air intake or something later on lol....and yea idiot should of had a pro do the job he obviously didn't know a thing about wiring lmao

Are you talking about on top of the rad? You'll have to pull those motor mounts off to get it out there. No need to support the motor though.

They just hold the motor forward. You'll be fine undoing them to get the harness out. No biggie.

On wiring mess. One night I needed the correct vin to pass emissions and only had HPT. I had put a 99 harness on my 97 Bonneville. On the Bonne..there are very few wires in the same places in the pcm connectors on those two years. I took the connector side of a 97 harness and mapped it out to a 99 pcm top and soldered all the wires up. One night..yes.. mapping, soldering and the next morning I put my correct vin 97 in place with my adapter. Car started and ran fine on the first try. Went to emissions and had no issues.

Trust me..I understand birds nest and ugly wiring.
