Need ideas for new exhaust!!!

Even the cheap one is 2 grand...maybe if you got money to blow and your running out of things to do...I don't see how Swan even stays in business 3800 wise.

Buy a Hacksaw, cut the exhaust under the rear seat right before the "Y" split, remove everything after that.... yay more sound :th_laugh-lol2:

Probably won't sound very good, won't be legal at all, but it will be louder, and it is cheap :th_thumbsup-wink:

I had that.

It was epicly loud.

Then i had nothing after the downpipe.

It was RETARDEDLY loud.

Both sounded terrible though.
 
You want louder? Do as said above. Unbolting the catback is free. Cutting off mufflers are free. Getting pulled over and ticketed...not so much. Just go buy a 3" ZZP Catless Downpipe and buy a $20 glasspack and put it in place of the stock resonator. That'll be louder.
 


i put the super turbo replacement mufflers on mine , its a nice low mello kind of tone and i think it sounds great , makes a lil noise when you get on it , but just remember louder dont mean faster
 
Replace the res with a 30" glass pack, then get some borla mufflers to replace your stock ones. All in all should be about $250 installed. or $160 if you do it yourself.
 
summit turbo muff sounded alright on my friends monte to i think she paid 100 all together 20 per muff on summit and 60 to install
 
3800's just don't sound good no matter what you do to the exhaust. If you want a loud car, go for it. If you're like me, then get a DP and replace the resonator with a glasspack, and call it a day.
 


I have been in the exhaust and welding business for over thirty years. Here is my experience with the 3800 exhaust system. If you want it really loud remove the resonator and put flowmaters on (sounds like crap in my book). The following is what my customers have been most happy with and about half that started with flows went to.

1. Remove the resonator

2. Put a 2.5 baffled aftermarket turbo muffler on either side, doesn’t matter which side

3. Put a 1.75 baffled universal muffler on the other. Try to get as close to the same length as your turbo.

4. The mufflers may point slightly uphill so put some weep (drain) holes on the front side for condensation to escape.

5. Install your tips of choice

6. Enjoy

It is my experience that this is by far the most economical way to make the 3800 sound good (again just my personal opinion). Any muffler shop should be able to do this with parts on hand for under $200 depending on tips you choose. For that matter since there is no pipe work involved a guy with a sawsall and mig welder can do it.

The idea behind this setup is that at idle you will have a very smooth deep rumble without the irritating raspy blappity noise at higher RPM ranges. At cruising speeds you will be able to hear your exhaust over a moderate radio volume. At idle and low RPM ranges most of the exhaust will exit the turbo muffler only, giving a nice deep mellow sound. As RPM increases backpressure will increase in the turbo, then exhaust will start routing through the smaller muffler absorbing some of the “noise” if you may.

Keep in mind this is not intended to increase performance (more of an exhaust tone modification) although it will help to maintain low end torque with a minimal decrease in back pressure at WOT.

i have some flowmaster lookalikes and it does make the car sound BEEFY. i love it. :th_thumbsup-wink:
