Need help engine knock??

when i start the car is will start up fine but when you listen to it there is a clicking sound then as you rev it the clicking gets faster and louder and when you drive it it wont rev up past 3000 rpms even with the pedal on the floor! tell me whats wrong with it? help! thanks! i have a 2000 pontiac grand prix gt thanks!
 


Try to get a video of the "clicking" noise, or search for grand prix rod knock on youtube. Could be a number of things causing noise. Rod, lifter, broken valve spring, pulley, etc... Trying to diagnose a clicking sound over the interwebs is just about impossible.

And I 2nd the clogged cat. The fact that you can't get it to over 3K rpms is a good indication.

Could be rod knock. Flooring a knocking motor is not a good idea.

Correct. But, if it is a rod then he will be 1000% sure once it lets go at 3K in park. Click click BOOM. Time for a long block :cool:
 


Yep. Remove the O2 sensor from the rear manifold and take it for a drive with it completely out. Just be easy on it though. No racing.
