• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Need advice asap!

Hey guys, I turn to you for advice. I have my 99 GTP at someone up by me having some issues worked out with it. I had a ported LIM and ported SC installed on it and was having high idle issues. According to him it was due to the fact that the lim was cut too far or something. So his solution was to put the porte SC with hbar removed on a STOCK lim. If he does that, wouldnt that defeat the purpose of having the SC ported to begin with? He also mentioned that you should not reuse LIM gaskets ( even though thats exactly what he did). He wants to charge me 100 for a stock used lim and 400 to put it back together. Any thoughts???

Thank you in advance.

You have a vacuum leak. Find a can of Carb cleaner and spray all the vacuum lines and intake gaskets.(w the engine in of course) Wherever the engine surges when you spray is where your leak is.

Thats a crazy price and you can reuse the LIM gasket. I charge about $75ish for labor on a LIM gasket replacement. Stock LIM is about $40 tops. Using a stock one won't hurt anything unless you're ic.

Thank you for that, he also told me a shop would charge 800-1000 for a lim job.... that's how much I would pay for a friggin motor with LOW miles

750-1000 is what I told you. Call around and ask prices. I am talking a legit shop, no backyard BS. And yes that is what you would pay all said and done. You are also not telling the complete story here. So to ask if this price is too high without all the facts in hand, is not even a fair question.

Things I found:

-EGR tube cut and a slab of RTV on it with the attempt of deleting the EGR.
-Scotch tape you use to wrap presents on the throttle body nipple to block it off.
-Supercharger snout had nothing covering the end hole causing oil spraying everywhere.
-a bolt to try and block the hole for the IAT sensor that is no longer there on a half jagged k&n intake.
-supercharger gasket had enough RTV on the top and bottom of the gasket to spread around in areas you don't want them to be. Not even necessary to apply.
-PCM needed to be flashed back to complete stock by a Tech 2 from a GM dealer to be able to tune with HPTuners.
-Then with more then a weeks notice advising the supercharger and possibly the LIM needs to come off to diagnose the vac problem. Made him aware of the cost might be $600 at most depending what the exact issue was.

Following diagnosing the car that was not brought to my attention, horn blowing when steering wheel is turned. Even when relay is pulled. Didn't look further into it.
Passenger window does not go up after being rolled down. Just an issue trying to secure the car with valuables inside.

With the cost of paying a GM tech to come out and flash it stock, custom tune the PCM with HPTuners (including the $100 in credits), supplying a LIM not modified, proper supplies to stop vac leaks, gas in the car because it was left with a 1/8th of a tank, gaskets and other supplies (oil, coolant, ect..). Gave him a total of $700 all said and done. There was a problem with that price and which has lead him here asking for advise.

But for various reasons that were discussed, I decided to terminate the work being done. Please, I do not wish to go into detail and leave the drama aside. The car was left as is being taken apart and diagnosing for the owner to which come and pick up the car as is. As a note as well, I, nor "deadsnake" have ever met in person. The car was dropped off and to be done around my busy schedule that he was made aware off prior from dropping the car off. Which I insisted to wait for a better time.

Best of luck to you.

I have all the text messages bud, nice to see you are acting all nice here. BTW car was left in some parking lot at a grocery store, he took the PCM and keys and expects me to get it towed away without them. What a child.

Funny thing is you keep calling me a child. After I simply just told you I'm done playing your game. Weird several other people have had issues with you as well. I have all the text messages too and not once did it get childish. I simply gave you the choice to either have the car fixed then or never. You told me I could wait a couple days while you get a 2nd opinion. That's where I drew the line. Since my $700 price was so out of hand for doing those services along with everyone else that had a hand, here is my 2nd opinion. Take the car as is and get it fixed on your own. I told you I had no problem doing the work until you wanted to act like the child and threaten me you would report the car stolen and see me in court. For what? I did not steal anything. You dropped the car off. I secured the car and put it in a safe parking lot not just dumping it anywhere. I told you this before it happened and gave you the choice. Now you can come pick the car up from where I told you it is. You don't, that's on you.

I have several people witness to what happened as well. One of them being a GM tech to say how much it would cost. So don't act like I got out of hand and was not completely civil with you.

Its best we part ways. I cut my losses and you get your car. Done deal.

I was the one doing the engine work.
It was taken to my shop to do this work!!!
I found that the LIM on your car was ported too much for just a blower there was a gap/hole
torwards the snout.
Now this would be fine if there was a ic covering said hole alowing no leaks!
But this was not the case.
I had a brand new LIM in the shop i said i would install, and i do not reuse a LIM gasket
that i did not install due to did it get over torqued, proper torque sequence, was the old lim warped at all?
I stand behind my work and like to do it once. Not go back and redo work because of a cheap gasket..
Also when i heard about you acting like a child i decided i did not want your vehicle on my property.
So it is what it is you wanted a car fixed for damm near free.
Sorry but if you would have handled things better on your end i could and would have worked with you.

Alright....y'all should take this off here. Meet and work it out instead of bickering back and forth on here. I understand your all unhappy but come on work it out else where. We are here to help on the forum but not to listen to fights.

felt like i read a script for gone in 60 seconds 2? lol but i agree ..this forums bout helping each other out and stuff....:th_thumb-up:

If you guys knew the complete story, you too would have the same feeling. You feel bad for someone and try and help them out. Then you get crapped on. This is why I'm done trying. /end story.

Yea I understand. But this went from a need advice thread to an argument thread. To which L84BngoRacing
Joined the forum....made one post...just to join in on the argument.
