• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

My official LeMons car thread questions and answer??

That's weird he did mention a pop then no power didn't he? Man that sucks I have seen a lot of cracked gears when I was looking at machining a rollmaster timing set. In the end I sent it back because I didn't have an engine to measure it against.

Jeff

Ya he said it just died on him and that pop he mentioned could have been the chain going, oh well.....we will rebuild her better and faster

Tried pulling the engine today and found it totally locked up, timing chain didn't snap like I thought. So I can't separate the engine from the trans, going to have to pull the complete top end off and see whats keeping the pistons from moving and get it on a engine stand to do a complete teardown and diagnosis

Back at it again, went to the junk yards this past Saturday and did some poking around, found a 2006 GTP that has not been molested yet and scoured the yard for other finds!! Came across a 2000 GTX that had a front end wreck, hood was damaged beyond repair, and someone snagged the GTX spoilers and both front door GTX badges, I did manage to get the trunk lid emblem and the SLP tire pressure label under the trunk lid, no SLP sticker in the door jam :(. I'll be headed back Saturday morning to yank the '06 engine and use my original N/A motor for a core, $250 ain't too bad for another block

Still no diag on failure, only pulled engine with trans and sitting on the shop floor, I'll be separating and going into the engine some time this week

Where did you track down those GXP parts for the transmission? I'm in the middle of a build and I'm exploring my options lol.

24225850 is the part number for the GXP planetary with hardened gears and you'll need the corresponding lube dam to go with it,

Made a junk yard run this Saturday and scored a 2006 L32 long block with supercharger for $211 including the added 1 year warranty, now the fun begins!!

Warranty.....lmao. if only they knew hahaha

I'll take what I can get, for me it's more about when I tear it down and find a scored journal on the rods or mains but still....if I blow this up next race I get a new one LOL!!!

Final diagnosis is crankshaft snapped between #2 and #3 main journals but both rods are still connected. More pictures to come when engine is fully stripped down

Pulled the broken piece of crank out and in the second pic I see a strange inclusion where my finger is pointing, so who knows!!!

Here is the new candidate for a short block, 2006 L32 with aluminum oil pan :D

Wow, yeah metallurgy is a ***** sometimes. That is odd, I'm guessing that the hole is an oil passage and you are pointing at the funky break at the journal? Hopefully it didn't allow time for debris to get to the cam.

Jeff

Work was slow today so I began tear down of the new L32 engine. Pulled S/C, lower intake, heads, oil pan and front timing cover, good news so far, no chipped pistons, nice cross hatch pattern in the cylinder bore and did some quick cleanup on the gasket surfaces. Ordered up new gaskets & seals that should be in on Monday, tomorrow I start complete tear down of the old engine to swap the ported heads, studs, cam & all necessary parts that I'll be swapping over.
