my homemade CAI, opinions??

Re: my homemade CAI, opinions?

i have a stock TB that i hogged out and ported on my own, no external MAF.

when you ported your TB, what do you do about the throttle plate that is now too small for the hole? Is there a place that sells them in larger sizes?

You don't touch the area around the blade, just before and after.

Before the blade, just try and get some of that hump where the MAF sits out. you'll probably make a hole in front of it, just put some epoxy on the outside.

On the back, just some slight opening and blending on the blower.

Your MAF tables will be off when you do this so you'll need a tune.

Some of you were mentioning the screen on the MAF Sensor. When I installed my CAI I bought a new after market MAF that didn't have the screen. I asked someone about the screen. I was told the screen is there to basically protect the hair fine filements inside the factory MAF. I did notice the filements inside my after market MAF were thicker and more durable in appearence. Someone mentioned the screen smoothed out the airflow. Well it really doesn't. For example pour water through a screen does it flow smoothly? The screen is'nt for filtering the air either you have an Air filter for that. The screen is for protection pretty much it. Bottom line don't remove the screen off a factory MAF.

I likey mine. 4" exhaust pipe FTMFW :)

So this is better then a FWI? Because this looks like a lot less work then a FWI..

That's what I did to my gt. Sweet now I don't have to go through a bunch of trouble for an intake.

yea..... it does.

the other day i removed the screen on my factory external maf and well the car started to idle a little ruff and seemed more slugish, put the screen back in and all went away.

the screen does help the maf read the air better, i dont think it nececerly smooths the air out but maybe stabalizes it some.

same thing lol.

It DOES do its job, it only lets the air flow in one direction so it stabilizes and smooths it.
