My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...Maybe future 9 second in 2015 ?

Re: My 2001 Turdbo GP...

Not much of an update... but a small update.

Dave @ TEP still has car under the knife... Working on getting the spacer plate made for the new beefy 3 disc converter.
Also GMR input shaft cleaned up a little bit to not cut into the o ring now housed in the converter.
Also went ahead on coughed up the cash to get a 2.93 GMR 1" set. Dave thinks will help some on the launch
with a bit longer 1st gear. As once into 2nd gear, will be locking the converter, as it was built to do so without
worry of burning it up. So will either have a 2nd GMR 3.29 gear set for backup.. or one for sale eventually :)

Idea of what the gap will be for the spacer plate..

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

Not to much updates... Dave still has the car doing all the little fun things and still waiting to get the trans brake section
of the build figured out.

But figure post some pictures of more stuffs..

Internal Brace for the trans. Should help beef it up from flexing. Also converted to 2.93 GMR gears (not in picture)

Dave started on moving alternator and getting ready to do the new lower mount setup to remove the upper mounts all together.

Grabbed a ZZP aluminum radiator. Not sure will use it or not, but was $150 on black friday. Figure get it for now and if don't
use it, can resell it.

Hoping to finally have this thing back at the track in spring. Its been way to long, and eager to see the car again!

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

When I saw it at Dave's I stole the interior out of it. It's totally gutted now :)

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

I need to get up there again and check out this car...

Last time I was there I just got hammered and ate all day LOL...and watch my old man auction his car off up in Auburn.

Love this build...simple and effective as hell. Love the idea of ditching all the mounts too. Really helps clean everything up and keep stuff in its place. Are you using the hook style mount off the trans down to the subframe?

If we get to the track when Dave gets it running to start testing, should come out :) .. Not sure which one he will go to. Muncie maybe?

For the most part for a long time, I wanted it as simple as possible. Not to many over engineered things. Off the shelf parts that I can just slap on. Didn't bother doing any exotic port work, ect. Simple and cheap.

Only thing I regret maybe is the fuel cell setup. Wish that would have went a different route. Not a fan of it at all.

The mount setup was Daves idea to do all of a sudden. When i dropped car off I left a LS4 mount so could be a single upper mount, but he didnt like that idea.

To be honest, I am not sure what method Dave is going with. Apparently whatever method he's doing, he has done at least one, maybe two of before. He hasn't gone into super detail about it. Just waiting
for the pictures of when its done. :)

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

Ah, so that was the LS4 style thing he was hinting about.

Indiana is a little bit of a trek for me being in KCMO, but the ten hr. drive wasn't really as bad as I thought...I'd love to get up there though to see it in action.

Simple is the trick; it's all these guys that over complicate things and wonder when/why it don't work.

Ya the LS4 mount I bought, they are stainless steel vs the aluminum ones for the 3800s. Requires to be drilled out to bolt on to a 3800 head.
But its much stronger, thus why the GXP has one mount. Guess i'll be reselling it soon.

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

Put order in for the Optic Armour lexan glass full kit.

Will collect dust probably till late next year, but wanted to order it before it suddenly goes away from their site.

Re: My 10 second 2001 Turdbo GP...

Anxious to see what the weight difference is! Please put each piece on a scale vs the glass!
