Massive inprovement in front end feel for 50$

All I know is what happened to me, I installed them lip side up, and they both pulled out. I installed them both lip side down, put twice the mileage I have since the first go-around, and they haven't moved at all. How is that misinformation?

I think you are taking it a little personal, as I said i am not sold it matters. I have 3 GP's, all factory arms are the same as the pic. I installed my Moog problem savers same as the pic. Not sure why yours pulled out, possible you got a bad set . You didn't say if you installed in a new or used arm, that matters also. Either way you say the picture is incorrect, so that is misinformation. Not here to start problems, lets move on.

In my experience, the picture is incorrect. It didn't work for me. They were my stock arms, and I did replace one of the bushings during the "flip." I guess Moog is providing this same misinformation.

this is awesome. I have had it on my list to put new control arms in both GP's for ages. (the ones in the gt have 350,000 on them, somehow still going strong...)

less than 100 a side. found control arms new for 30 a pop, bushings 22 a pop, and if i want to get crazy ill do nicer ball joints. id really like that other horizontal bushing in poly. someone has to make something close......

Dorman brand Police Impala control arms, p/n 22947665 and 22947666. About 45 bucks each on RockAuto, police spec bushings and ball joint.

^^ I bought the above control arms and there was no difference between the normal 04+ aftermarket Dorman ones I took off. The horizontal bushing may have been slightly beefier but the same rubber crap as the normal ones. The steel is just as weak and thin. It may be best to buy the new style moog horizontal bushing and urethane lateral??

So do we have an agreement on which way to install? Im about to do mine and prefer to only do it once. I have a set of aftermarket arms, not sure of the brand but they have three small tack welds on this bushing too

I believe some of the issue with the bushing pulling out are when they are replaced the arm doesn't hold the new bushing as it was made. I personally never had one pull out. I never used the press for them either. I would hit out the old one with a BFH or my air hammer. I would have the new one in the freezer and hit it around the edges to get it seated and then use a steel plate to hit it in evenly.

they aren't that much better, but for less than 100 bucks, two brand new OE quality LCAs is a pretty damn good deal... especially if you're looking for a cheap fix to a worn out front end.

Absolutely, it has to be better than the crappy Mevotech arms I bought years back. Those things were aweful. The ball joints didn't seat tight at all and the bushings were extremely soft. Control arms have come way down in price in the last several years. It is well worth buying a quality set.

I got Raybestos ball joints from a friend for free, those lasted about 3k before they started clunking.

I would totally recommend a full set, they are easily worth the money you would save from buying just new bushings alone... Plus you get shiny new instead of nasty old rust. lol

That would be even better, because the police control arms are "supposedly" thicker, and of a higher quality steel than stock.

Depends what you are wanting in the suspension. If you are looking to eliminate a bit of torque steer then yes replace them. They can be swapped out fairly easy. I always hit it out with a small sledge, then use my air hammer to pop it right out. You can use a pry bar or chisel in place of the air tool and just use a hammer. to put the new one in I tap around the edges with the hammer to get it seated and the use a steel plate to hit it all the way in with the hammer. You can use a block of wood or large socket or something also. (if you put the new bushing in the freezer it seems to help get the new bushing to seat easier into the control arm)

No they have stronger bushings and IIRC the balljoint is made of better materials

Sent from my LG G3

Note the quotations in my post. lol

According to the recall notice, the original control arms would fracture under the stress of police duty, so that would easily lead people to think that the Dorman ones were a structurally stronger design...

Whether or not they are, they still have a better balljoint, and are cheaper than most other control arms of the same quality.
