Make A 4" Fenderwell Intake (FWI)[*]

My Lowes and Home Depot don't have em in 4". I used a 75* when I put my 3" together and it worked really well (the 75*, not the 3")
 


I checked Lowes they didn't have them...

I'm guessing you could just use a 45* pvc bend in place of the 90* that was cut in half?
 
a 4" rubber flexible bend can not be found in most states... simply because it is against plumbing code... u can find them online, mostly from canada

I am haveing the same problem with finding the 90* flexable too! so was wondering what people that have the hard 45* are you getting a 90* and cutting it in half to fit inside the 3"-4" coupler or are you getting the 45* and useing the 3" pvc to connect the 3"-4" coupler and glueing the pvc to the 45*? is all the lenghs still the same going hard vs soft and any issues with engine rocking and poping intake or flilter off the throttle body because there is no significant flexable joint any more? Thanks all just got a 02 gtp and soon going to be doing some signifiant mods!:th_thumbsup-wink:

I did this setup using three inch ABS, although I still need to put the flashing in place. I love the way the supercharger screams now!:burnrubber0:
 
Ok, so here is a question for you. I looked at your intake setup. That would seem better if you had an intercooler setup. I think that a little bit less airflow of colder air, (which cold air has a lot more oxygen in it), than a setup like you have, which is pushing in not much more hot air. Do the math there. It doesn't add up in my head. I am definitely doing my research now, as I want the most performance possible. Any insight?
 


My stock throttle body is 3", so I will go 4" when I get a bigger MAF sensor, and throttle body. What's the point now, to say I have a 4" intake? I understand bends restrict flow. I also understand that colder air, is denser, with more oxygen! which means more pop out of my motor. So I am now trying to figure out if getting a little more warm air, or a little less cold air has more oxygen. After doing this setup, my comp g now shifts from 2nd to 3rd at 85mph, while before, it was only at 80mph. I video recorded the before and after.
I am now wondering what is more effective, but somebody telling me to go to 4" and lose the bends, means absolutely nothing to me, if you don't have some facts to back that up.
 
All of the bends and the ribbed factory peice will negate any power you would have made with the cooler air your bringing into the motor. This is common sense. I bet your factory set-up was more effective.
 
Then how am I gaining 5 mph before shifting into third gear? I am going to see about removing the ribbed piece. But I think I am getting more oxygen out of the setup I have. You guys are forgetting that colder, denser air has more oxygen. Who gives a **** about how much AIR I am getting?! It's all about how much O2 my motor is getting?
Again, where are the facts to back up what you say? Common sense sounds like a common answer for somebody that doesn't really know what they are talking about. Let's here the physics behind your answer!
 


Corugated tubing causes disruptions in air flow.

Bends in tubing causes restriction in air flow since it has to change direction.

This whole "gaining 5 MPH before shifting into third" just means either you have raised shift points or your tranny is slipping/ not shifting fast enough.

So either you have a tune, or your tranny is showing signs of being abused.

my tranny is in tip top shape! i removed the ribbed elbow, and i now have two 45 degree bends total. you guys that are trying to hate on my crafty FWI can suck it! I think you guys that think they know it all are lame, and the guys that actually are helpful, and know their stuff are greatly appreciated!
i am getting colder air than the air inside the motor compartment! do i need to set up a digital thermometer to show the difference in temperature? actually, i may do that! i know that my car is getting more airflow with the setup i have. You short ram gurus crack me up!

Ya, Matts right, your tranny is slipping. Different intake set ups will not change shift points. It's funny how we're are trying to give you some good advice and you are telling us to suck it? We also know nothing but yet you took some of the advice and made changes. If your going to post pics of this cobbled up mess then expect people to comment. Now, change it to 4" and it won't be too bad of a set up. Still restrictive but better

ill keep cracking you up too, cause your intake is junk. too many bends and too small. your 'cold air' isnt helping either since the stock air box probably had just as cold of air as youre getting now. you want ONE coupler, ONE straight 4" piece, and ONE big ass cone filter.
