• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

MAF Problem?

The only thing that happened here was you getting lucky.

And you still don't know if it has a vacuum leak because you don't have a way to scan it.

So therefore, I'm technically not wrong until you can prove it with a scan.

lol im sry but im just going to savor the one time i was right/ever going to be right about something we were going back and forth about

Hey Winter, you never said how the car ran after cleaning the TB. Is the issue gone? Just curious as I'm having the same issue on my 02' NA and I'll be doing the MAF and TB tomorrow morning.

A vacuum leak would suck fluid in not bubble it up.

I'm sure it did that too.

well nothing happened at all i would have noticed stuff getting sucked in. now i feel dumb that i said it would have bubbled up because i know better lol. but yeah nothing happened. and again i emphasize that i watched the gasket seal. there was not even the slightest crack between the tb and the intake manifold. and no codes were thrown because the check engine light didnt come on.

i cant be sure for about a month because the problem is very intermittent. sometimes it happens often sometimes not for weeks. so ill keep ya updated. i can say for sure that the car starts up real quick now after i cleaned the throttle body. starts as quick as the snap of your fingers so i can notice the cleaning helped in some way haha.

Thanks for the update. I'm actually heading down in about 15 minutes to start doing mine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this clears up the issue. Mine doesn't throw up any codes either and is also intermittent.

your going to need a new gasket on an 02 its not like the 04+,its a metal type that falls apart when you take it apart

Take the maf out and clean it only with maf cleaner dont go spraying carb cleaner in the tb with the maf in there

Also your maf is a dime a dozen in the jy and can probly get one for 20 bucks so do the maf d/c test to verify the maf is having issues if it is just grab one from the jy for next to nothing, map sensor too could cause issues

A vacuum leak doesn't always toss a P0171.

You also can't prove it isn't leaking without a scanner.

lol wutevs dude. all i can say is that with the 3 bolts the tb was on there just as good as it was with 4, and when i put the 4th one on it didnt make any difference as to how tight the tb was on there, no difference at all. the tb was already on there real good and the gasket was sealed.

Yes, I had gotten a new gasket and two different cleaners, one for the TB and the other for the MAF. I'm back upstairs now and the car starts and runs fine now, cold and hot. It was really dirty to say the least. I have seen worse but it surely had a bunch of crud built up around the blade in the TB. I had only two small issues doing the job which I'll post up with some pics.
