• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Lucas or STP in supercharger to stop knocking

It is still there when i accelerate, gets faster... no, stock pulley...
ill check the a/c thing real fast

I'm telling you... did this already myself :th_depressed: ... Its main engine.

Either valvetrain noise (broken lifter, spring, etc...)
or its a chipped piston (doesn't usually happen on a stock pulley, but it could be possible)
or like me, main bearing is gone, going, or something else lower end.

Put the belts back on, put car on ramps, chock the wheels &/or set the parking-brake, leave it running and get under it, if its louder under it and it is above it guess what??? :th_crying1:

If both belts are off and the noise is there, it can NOT be anything but engine, no belt to move anything else so write those off. Unless you have electric parts installed and your being sneaksie.

A thought, is the CEL on? If so get it scanned, write the codes down, post them here and we can go further.

Yeah. I opened up oil fill neck and it seems as tho the noise comes from inaide the valve cover... there arent any check engine lights on... i might do a motor flush and change oil with lucas and see if maybr one of the springs or somethibg is just not getting oiled...

Springs wouldn't tick unless broken. A collapsed lifter would tick as well. May be time to pull the valve cover and have a look.

One other thing to check is the harmonic balancer they can over time wear out and make noises like that. Another possibility is flex plate but the noise ususally goes away when throttle is applied.

Maybe it's time to yank the top friggen top end apart...and aren't you trying to sell this thing?

I feel sorry for the poor sap that buys it with no knowledge of anything wrong...but I'm sure even a non-carpersonmanwomanguy would be able to tell something is up there. That ain't exactly, un-noticeable.

Don't waste your money on a "Motor Flush"...

Go get a big screwdriver and try to pin point the noise with it...hold it up to your ear to listen while it runs.

Try putting seafoam into the oil....mine did this and i think it was a sticky lifter. Put seafoam in and within 5 mins gone! Never heard it again...that was about a year ago.

I put cd2 in the oil already.. didnt help... ive been using the mechanics stethascope type tool.. i guess tomorrow ill just take the valve cover off and have a look... and yes im selling it but not if its having motor problems.. im not a jack ass

Don't use Lucas, it is just a thickener. It has no additives that help protect the engine and will dilute the additives in the oil. If you want thicker oil, buy a heavier weight oil.

Hmm... Well, knocking wasnt there this morning and hasnt been there all day... maybe the cd2 cleared it up? If it comes back I keep you guys updated... and in that case I'll prolly just start by taking the valve covers off and lookin at some stuff.

I had a knocking/rattle sound at idle and went away with any rise in rpm......thought it was the coupler, replaced that and no change. Took both belts off and still rattled......replaced the harmonic balancer and no more noise. Just fyi if your still trying to fix, or for anyone else who is the same boat on here

Did you guys not see this thread is over 3 months old? Im sure he either fixed the problem or sold the car by now.
