Low Timing issue?

I noticed my 04 comp g was running kinda doggy today so I hooked up my torque app to it and I noticed I only had 4* of timing when it was acting up trying to accelerate at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. If I pushed the gas harder it would downshift and be ok. Cruising timing is fine and when I went WOT the timing went to 15* and stayed right there. I'm not sure what's causing this but I occasionally get a P0420 code because I think my cat is getting clogged up. Any help would be appreciated.

Theres no KR because your timing was so low. If you added more timing, more than likely KR would show from my understanding. But i feel your pain, with my 3.4 pulley setup, my timing gets down to like 13-14* of timing when accelerating and after shifts it drops roughly 4-5*, but i know when to let off the pedal before it shifts to compensate that drop. But ya i can get down to 13* while accelerating, then it'll go back to normal 29*-20* cruising, then 15*WOT. There's too many factors that play into timing i've been told, so unless you have a tuning program, i have no clue lol

I was accelerating really slowly. I could feel it coming and going. It would accelerate sluggishly then the timing would come up and it would be fine all without doing anything to it.

does it happen when your TC is locked? My timing is very different when accelerating under TC than when its not engaged, when its locked it also feels like its bogging down until it releases

Best bet would be fixing your cat then if you're getting a cat code and all these symptoms of a clogged cat. I'm not so sure how much a clogged cat affects the time tables however..

Negative timing will show when the car shifts, if you ever log a WOT run you'll see the timing be around whatever you are running, say 14-16, the second it wants to shift, timing will show negative numbers and then go right back to 14-16.

The only time I see timing as low as 4-6 is during cold starts for the first minute or two, the car is in a high idle trying to warm up quickly, perhaps having o2 sensor issues that may cause the car to act funny like that.

It was like 30* outside. I'm going to see how she acts today. I'm probably going to pull the 98 apart tonight and maybe put the headers on the comp g tom.
