Looking for tire opinion.

Timing

New member
So its that time where i need some new tires.

My main concerns are as follows.
Traction- Needs to have good traction during the summer. I do alot of aggressive driving as most of us do.
Treadwear- I dont want to replace my tires every year but if i can get 2-3 out of them ill be happy. I do roughly 8-10k a year.
All season- I live in Mass and see pretty bad winters so good traction in snow is pretty important aswell. Im a good driver and have never had problems getting around in the winter with any vehicle, but i still want a decent tire in the winter.
Style- with all this in mind i dont want some god awful looking tire. I want something sporty and somewhat slim. Not an elastic band but im sure you understand what i meen. I dont want something super rugged looking like im going offroading in a sport sedan.
Price-i can spend roughly 100-150 a tire. And i get cost on tires cus i work at an auto parts store and have a good hookup with a local tire place.

Bridgestone Portenza Pole Position RE970AS

I had the older ones (960's) too, like them a little better, but, the 970's grip nicely, summer, rain and ok on snow, just depends how deep, lol.

if you want super grip, you're not going to get long life, it is a choice, but you can't have both on same rubber, it's a myth!

Those potenza's in winter......................yeah about that.

Those potenza's lasting more than 20k miles with "fun" driving..............about that.

Those potenza's being cheap enough to buy for what they are worth...........about that.

Get some cooper cs4's or something similar to them. They will give you enough grip, great all season traction and last you atleast 2-3 years if not more. Cs4's have a 60k tread rating.

They aren't cheap, and I've never lost grip driving in many bad conditions, hydroplaning included, even with my aggressive driving. Only once, once time was snow an issue and everyone was getting stuck, not just the Potenza's. lol, but to each his own.

Hater!

I'll buy them again, happily!

hahahaha.... : )

I myself was looking at the Michelin Primacy MXV4+'s, they seem to get some great grip, even in snow, but I've been hearing some issues with tread wear in spite of a 60k tread wear warranty. I'm pretty stumped.

Ya thing that sucks is they may have a great warrantee but if you dont have a shop document the tire rotations every 3k miles your not going to get that warantee. So i dont really care what it is aslong as they last 20k +

I forgot, i also wanted an opinion on possibly getting a wider tire. What size tire should i get. Stock is 225/55-17.

How do you feel about yokohama avid envigor? My local tire warehouse doesnt sell cooper. Sure i could order them but also dont really care for the sidewall look of that tire.

I am on my second set of BFG Advantage and am very pleased. First set lasted about 30k and grip wise I could not get them to spin until it was time to replace them. Compared to the first set when I got the car which were some sort of Michelins I think. Those I could light up.

...oh nvm you see snow :th_shakinghead1: lol

I got a funny feeling that we're gonna see some this winter.

Here is a copy of some tire reviews/brands I got when looking for some for my Bonne and Vic earlier this month. Not sure how true they are but after reading some other reviews (tirerack, etc) they seem to be pretty close.

ContiProContact EcoPlus: Even better than the regular ProContact. Better at everything.
ExtremeContact DWS: Awesome Tire. Period

Michelin:
Pilot Exalto A/S: Great tire. Really. Period. I'm serious.
Pilot Sport A/S+: You don't understand how great this tire is until you've driven on it. I'm still not kidding.
Symmetry: You won't like this tire in the wet.
Harmony: Just OK. Good, quiet comfortable ride, but nothing AMAZING in any condition. Great touring tire.
Pilot HX MXM4: This has to be one of the most expensive tires sold in an average size, and has zero to show for it. BAD WET TRACTION.
Primacy MXV4: Fantastic premium touring tire. Long lasting, quiet, great traction.
Primacy MXM4: Very new tire, so far from what I've heard from people, and read otherwise, it's one of the best tires that michelin has put out in years. Possibly decades. If this comes in your size. Buy it.
Energy LX4: Not...awesome. Just standard.

And no, IDGAF what the sidewall of a tire looks like, lol... I just want it to do it's job and keep me on the road and last a reasonable amount of time.

I second the Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position RE970 Great reviews and decently priced. A very high rated all season performance tire. They ride nice and quiet too

http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/avid_envigor seems ok, like i said im not to worried about winter driving im not an idiot.
another option is http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/avid_ascend
Another note i dont give a **** about noise my music or engine is usually loud enough it doesnt matter

Might go with these http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/parada_spec_x
edit: dam they only come in 225/65-17

Does anyone have any experience with yokohama? They were my initial choice from looking at reviews specs price ect. Just seem like best bang for your buck. I could be wrong, never ran them.

I've had Pilot Sport A/S Plus, Goodyear Allegra, Goodyear Fuel Max H Speed rated, Continental DWS.

I'd rate the Pilots as best ever all around tire I've driven on.

Allegras were fine, the fuel max was fine. Allegras were old when I had them, but got around well enough in the winter. Fuel max was alright in the winter as well. The fuel max's would hook 270 WHP after 40 KPH. The Pilots would hook 270 WHP all the time. Pilot wet traction was amazing as well.

The continentals can barely hook 215 WHP. But the contis are great in the snow and cheaper than the Michelins. To be fair the DWS is on another vehicle. So the crap suspension is probably mostly to blame for the traction issues.

I had some michelin and hated them on my 2000. Put them on in winter. all seasons btw, had **** for traction, were bald in under 10k miles. Cant complain cus i got them for free with the car but still, they were brand new when i put them on.
