LIM Question

Go to a Chevy dealer, (or any dealer that sold a 3.8 at the time) and ask for part number 89017825. They are aluminum framed LIM gaskets. They appear to be very beefy, and these gaskets are what GM started using in the 05 model year 3.8's.

It took them that long to come up with something that actually worked, eh? No wonder GM went belly up. What a bunch of dumbasses. I swear, they act like it's the first engine they ever designed.

Well at first they didn't think there was a problem... takes years for these gaskets to leak.

BMW can't design a cooling system to save themselves yet NO ONE cares. Why? Because they always lease them or sell them before issues arise.

I don't know why they made the gap between the intake manifold and heads so darn big in the first place. I think the gasket designs are way to complicated, simple and efficient designs are the best. A stupid thick arse gasket with o-rings built in, is a no no. A Thin composite gasket with impregnated sealer like on a SBC, would have been the way to go, but what so I know, i've only been working on cars 30 years, it's not like having to reinvent the wheel. I think the person or persons who design the gaskets on all GM's engines in the 2000's like the 3800, and Vortec engines have never installed a gasket in thier life.

The problem with the original plastic gasket is that there is small expansion joint on each side large water port, this expansion joint becomes weak and breaks, from what? EXPANDING! And this is where they start leaking. The o-ring around each port no longer has any support so it squeezes out any way it wants too. Whoever designed these gaskets have no idea what they are doing. Now the new fel-pro plastic gasket does not have this expansion joint, they should last indefinetly if installed correctly. Dexcol or whatever it is, does nothing to the plastic itself, I don't care who says what.

Read 'em and weep my friend. :th_laugh-lol2: I seriously want your opinion on this link. Read it from top to bottom.
