Legal question

So my old 04 gp I used to have, the original price the seller (being one of my good friends dads) asked was 4000. Well after I bought it we found out that the brakes needed replacing and the rotors were warped. Along with spark plugs needing replacing, the hubs were way beyond bad along with the sway bar end links/tie rod ends and lower ball joints were shot. It hadn't been driven in several months and was high mileage. He decided since I was a friend we would settle at 2000 instead of the 4000 the title says. So after I paid the 2000 he signed the title over and I traded it in for my current gxp. Well now he wants the rest of the money even though he's signed the title which had a lean on it over to me. To which the dealership I traded it in to has now and has had for 9 months approximately now. Also when it comes to money they are very well off...like I've seen how much they make when I used to work part time with. So now he says he's gonna send a certified letter asking for the rest of the payments. My question is anyone with legal experience what can he actually do?

No legal experience needed. You have the title which he signed over to you. He can't do anything. What did the bill of sale say?

The original thing said 4000. But he later said after repairs 2000 was fine which I paid and he then signed title over.

So what should I say to em...I mean he ain't a friend no more cause of some other **** that went down so I don't care really just wanna make sure I can't get into legal trouble

Tell him to stop being a douche. The deal is already done. Why does he all of a sudden want the 2 grand anyway?

No idea...greed I guess. He has a company that works for hospitals and several other places all the way from Florida to TN

id just tell him, we agreed it needs work, so you took 1/2 off. and gave me the signed title. we are done now. thank you, bye. lol

register and title the car asap if not done yet.

he dont have a leg to stand on, unless theres a bill of sale that you singed saying different.

oh and if he keeps calling you over and over, start a log of his calls, (time and date of every call, save any messages or texts) then call the cops and file harassment charges on him.

So you said original said 4000, then he said 2000? Did they write 2000$ on it after or just verbal? That's just dumb tho n obviously not your friend. Seeing its been that long n now all of a sudden there's a problem is funny lol. But idk man it's gonna be more of a hassle for him to go thru all of it. Seems pointless. Maybe he just trying to scare ya to see if you cough up some money.

He signed the lean title to me when i paid 2000. Well the car was already registered and I did have the title. The dealership has the title now. Then I traded it in for the gxp cause it started having to many problems then unwanted to deal with

ok, so you traded in your car, and bought this one off some one else and took over his loan? put the trade in towards the loan, and take over whats left on said payments? is that right?

either way, hes fvcked if theres no further documents saying you owe him more money.

dealer wont give two sh!ts either. they're out of it now. they flipped a car without a sales man.....

We like I bought the GXP from dealership and traded in the 04 GP once he signed the title over. I didn't really take over payments just took out a small auto loan for the gxp after trade in of the gp. Like from the title side of things him signing over the lean title makes it look like I paid the agreed 4 even though I only paid 2 like we agreed on after the original bill of sale.

same thing in the end. the bank has the title.

tell him to "pound salt!". lol not much he can do but try to sue you at this point.

the only thing that sucks is you got charged sales tax for 2,000 more then you paid.

On sounds good. I just wanted to see what I should do...I'm gonna let him know a deals a deal. Cause if he trys to sue it looks like all I need to do is take my copy of the title and show it cause he signed it.

Ya if he signed the deal and it was a full agreement on the 2000$ then its a done deal. He cant do anything except look in the mirirror and think how stupied he was selling the car to you. And if hes not a friend no more then tell him the deal is over and have a nice day. DONE, no more negotiating. And the bank and dealer will tell him to suck it cause he signed the title over and he now owns no right of it. He should know once he signed the title over, he owns nothing of the car anymore. Even if he left his phone in the car, its yours now. don't worry about him trying to do something, you don't have the title no more or the car so he cant do anything to you. He has to take it up with the dealer.

He cant do ****. kinda like this. You sell me your car for 2k, you being a nice guy allow me to put 1k down and sign the title over to me. I stiff you the other 1k and since ur a nice guy and nothing written in stone your sol :). Title is signed the deal is done and done.

OK guys I'm glad y'all are giving me this input. Its what I needed. I don't want to pay more nor do I intend to. So thanks for telling me. All input is welcome

If the guy wanted ALL the money then he should have sold it to a dealer not to private party. But since he didn't, then title changes are different in this case. dont sweat bro, im not much into legal stuff but all he can do MAYBE is sue you for something stupid. But if he was smart, which i guess hes not, then he would figure that after all the money spent in court all the money he get back would be just used in suing. Which would result in a waste of money, time, and energy.
