i have chance to buy a k&n kit from a guy that he never installed. does anyone know what the hp increase is on the 3.8 n/a? i looked on k&n's site and they showed like 13.34hp increase but their test grand prix was supercharged

Save your money...make your own and gain more power...the K&N unit is junk.

i agree i would never buy one at a brand new cost. he is only looking for 100 bucks for it. how much does it cost for all the parts needed to build your own?

Less than that...probably about 50 bucks including the filter. Like I said...click the link in my signature, my thread has everything you need.

I fabbed mine with just the cost of the Filter. The rest of the metal I had was laying around work not being used (we do alot of exhaust work here)

Here are the three parts needed to make your own setup similar to that
This coupler to attach to the throttle body: Advance Auto Parts: Coupler/Reducer 4" to 4" or 3-7/8" by Spectre - Part 9771
This 4" 45° elbow to attach to the coupler on throttle body: Advance Auto Parts: 4" Aluminum 45-Degree Elbow by Spectre - Part 9749
And this 9" long filter to attacth to 45° elbow: Advance Auto Parts: High Flow Air Filter by Spectre - Part 9732

This will make you car look (under the hood) and sound much better
I also noticed a little better throttle response when you really punch it
Nothing major but it is absolutely worth the upgrade

And if you buy the 45 degree bend in the PVC section at home depot its only like $6......as opposed to $21 at Advance, so it is worth a trip to your local Home Depot after you buy the filter.........And yes, it's totally worth it, first thing I did to my car

I have the K&N. Its not junk at all. It just seals to the hood instead of having a lid. I saw about 7-9HP on my aeroforce after it was installed. $100 for the K&N vs making your own is a good deal IMO.

An even Cheaper method is to Buy a 3 inch pvc Straight tube. Take out the whole stock intake box. Depending on what size filter you get will determine how much of the pipe you need. The 3 inch literally fits right in that rubber ribbed hose that is stock and shimmy it till it gets to the back. It should stop a few inches before the IAT. Put your Filter on the end and there you have it. No need to drill a perfect size hose for your iat or worry about it just being stuffed somewhere. Thats what i did and it works great.

I would rather spend the extra 15 bucks and get something that is designed for air intakes and not water
Plus it looks much nicer than cheap pvc

The black hose is the most restrictive part of the stock air filter.... that is why most people get rid of it
You don't really need to drill a hole for your IAT, I just have mine sitting next to my intake tube without any problems whatsoever

I said you push it through the black intake hose the pipe will actually fit between those ribs so you get 0 restriction. The pipe literally goes almost as deep as the IAT sensor. It stops right where that tube bends its 45* to go on the throttle body there for deleting the restriction. Does that paint a better picture?

Actually...the K&N DOESN'T seal against the hood...that's been proven. It comes up short by at least 2 or more inches. Think about it...your diagonal brace doesn't come close to touching the bottom of the hood and the rubber pieces for the "seal" on the K&N sit under the brace...

I had one on my GTP right after i bought it. With just it and a downpipe I netted 25HP over stock. Granted the K&N FIPK's are way overpriced it did help. I might have the dyno sheet somewhere still.

I say if you can get it for less than 100.00 go for it. If not step away.
