K&N Air Intake Horsepower

really??? explain why its so simple then????

like said im almost positive i could pick up atleast .2ths in the 1/4 from going from a stock intake to an open cone. that is more than 2whp.

again you have no FAQ'S.

fail, try again.

Haaaaaa.hahaha.hahhahahahahahahahahahahaha.

WOW, how the hell is this still going! If someone could honestly think they gain the hp numbers that a manufacter says, there a total window licker. Seriously! Thats like civic owners saying they have 220 whp cause of a $6 ebay chip and $21 intake that says will net them 73 hp. Just cause they throw a number out, doesn't mean sh1t! And if anyone thinks a intake alone will get you .2, you need to gently go bash your head againest a wall till you see red stuff, cause no one else needs infected with your stupidity! Theres already enough of it on here. This thread should have ended month ago yet people think with there balls, not with there brains no matter how wrong they are. /rant

again, you fail to explain. anyone can say what they think. if its so simple, explain :th_thumbsup-wink:

i see it happen all the time fellow. in fact, i even see it in trucks.

here is a dyno video of the g37 infinity picking up 9hp from an intake. not the same car, but im pretty sure a supercharger would yeild better gains from an intake than n/a. lightnings pick up 2 pounds of boost with just an intake.
YouTube - Infiniti G37-S - Fujita Intake Before / After Dyno

im going to the track in a few weeks, if i can find my stock air box ill do comparisions.

and that brings driver error into play. a dyno pull is the only real world way, that or a unbias, pro driver who can run consistant within .1 to prove anything. In order for me to believe a time slip i would need to see about 12 runs, 6 stock, 6 with an intake. and all within at most a .1 and that may prove something. Not tryin to be a dick here (to late for that) but its really hard to prove a very minor increase on a track. You could run 15.10's all day long, put in a different cd and eat a hamburger and start turning 14.95's and i've seen it. You tell a muscle car guy that there gonna lose there as$ to this accord and they'll shave .4 off a time from nowhere, just because not having experience.

and i understand. driver error could throw alot of things off. but i can run cosistant of .1 :th_thumbsup-wink:

when i was stock i have about 15 14.6-14.7 slips.

if i can find my stock air box, ill see what i can do.

if i cut the same 60" foot, but run a few .ths faster and few MPH faster. i think it would be pretty hard to denie that.

u know, if there is proof that there is negligable hp to be found in these cars by installing a 4" fwi....why the f%ck is every one doing it. even the guys with highpost count ditch the "restrictive air intake" run an open cone! its just hypocritical because someone else argued the point and not them. they work ok, thats why we use em. as for a k&n? i would not waste my $$$money on that for ****. i agree with rob, we'll go to steel and run a stock setup...me on a gen 3 and him on a gen5.

honestly, the best intake setup for someone lightly modded is to leave the stock airbox with a drop in filter and make a mandrel bent tubing section to run the gap between the throttle body and the airbox. for someone more heavily modded an open cone is for sure the way to go.

before i would buy a k&n set up do what bio said....replace corragated elbow and gut out inside of air box ,,use a k&n panel filter, thats what i did for about 3 months before i made a 4"fwi..only difference was the noise level=more whine! hopefully this thread ends today!!

quoted myself so more people read it.

i agree with bio, but i would probably hollow the stock box out and put a cone filter on it (more filter area/more flow) i might even go back to the stock box come summer time to try and keep some of the heat out. the stock box was a far better sealer than the wizair i had. god i hated that thing. it was cool at first, but once you take it off one time, things never fit right after that.

17hp.. lol wat? dont forget to wash the car and add tint for an additional 13hp!

open cone is what i sport, though the wizair would be nice to have..i guess. idk, dont care really.

k&n filters are good yeah, but the actual intake kit?.. pff. go buy a cheap intake on ebay, it'll do the same thing.

Haha, nice. I agree with everything except the ebay intake. They're only like 2.5" tubing, and half of them are chrome which kind of defeats the whole "cold" air intake thing lol. BUT then again having chrome in your engine adds 15 horse and is a great supporting mod for the tint so I guess it'd balance out :p

Assuming RWD cars are faster than any given FWD car simply because of the fact that it's RWD is just ignorant. I hope you're joking, and it's not "general car knowledge."

Weight transfer causes there to be more available traction on the two rear wheels than the two front ones during a launch.

That... should be common knowledge.

I'm not saying ANY given car, thats just ****ing retarded and shows you have NO idea what a fair comparison is.

If a GP was RWD versus FWD, the RWD would walk on the FWD version every time if both drivers were of the same skill level.

If you limit the weight transfer, sure things start to become more even. But those cars can't be driven to the track without either avoiding every bump in the road or without the use of spring blockers.

Only because this is all you said. Given that two similar cars with same power, yes, RWD is likely faster. But simply saying

is wrong.

So you're arguing over a small technicality?

Assuming one knew anything about cars... they'd know comparing a yenko camaro to a geo metro isn't fair. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Unless the Geo had the four cylinder, those straight haul.
