theres also a test kit for big rigs, it can tell you how much copper is in your oil. aka bearing wear. no idea what that costs tho. most shops do this test with every oil change.

except our bearings are aluminum babbit and the aluminum ppm detected in the oil could be from piston wear or bearing wear

Yup so after the oil change all seemed fine in the oil the night before, started her up and had more psi this time around. Drove it out of my subdivision heading to work, oil pressure dropped to none, boost gauge fluctuating, and car was backfiring i think. Thought it was a misfire for a second. Had her towed into work. I'm praying it was just the pump that took a ****, i didn't drive it for long at all after this happened, just en ought to pull over safely.

worst case scenerio i'd expect new crank rods and all that lower end jazz. I'm really praying it was just the pump tho.

as you know, rebuilding these is not cheap to do it right. used is the best way to go really.

with having no oil pressure your bearings are not well. im thinking the new cold oil gave you some psi, once it warmed up and thinned, bye bye oil pressure.

Gotcha thats a shame. With the stuff done to it, i'd hate to ditch the motor.

Honestly I don't know what it would cost through my work. They're pricey as is, but I'll have to see what's wrong with it exactly.

your looking at 2 grand easy. why we all buy used engines and carry on.

unless you got that kind of money to put into a 16 year old car. you'll never get it back if you know what i mean.

Valve in the oil pump was stuck open/close. What are the odds. So they were either going to pull it apart and look at the internals or fix it the valve in the pump and put it back on. Which can be more of a band aid and see from there. Sounds just like a noisy lifter when they started it the other day, but who knows. Now I'm unsure if I should just get the motor replaced, fix the exhisting, or look for a different car. It's heartbreaking.

Ya having a strong tie to it would be like dumping a first love lmao. Would pray the cam is alright, swap that over into a new engine and hope the trans still holds strong if I go that route. They did find metal shavings on the valve, but i heard the case it's housed in is aluminum. "

Then if got a cobalt, higher insurance, payments, slower, but does have a modding scene so i can make it nearly as peppy as the GP was...and better gas mileage and would be fun to drive i'd assume. Besides for replacing trans parts on it.

Car payments vs no car payment (assuming gp paid off)

$700 to get another motor and swap it vs $7k for another car.
