• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

isn't this supposed to be dry??

Bill, I did the v/c gaskets when I dropped the replacement motor in. I'm sure I have the receipt for the gaskets and grommets somewhere. Guess it couldn't hurt to see what a dealer would say as far as getting $$ back for it. Still have the recall notices. No way in hell they're getting my car, lol... Not sure what my own personal labor is worth to them, probably nothing.

finally managed to have some time to do this..but i'm not sure what to buy; a little help?? am I even looking at the right parts?

Yes, those are the parts u need. It is a very painless installation, except the left dog mount and coil pack/icm have to be removed which is a little annoying

just remember to clean up the head, where the cover sits, and the cover where the gasket sits inside it real good. brake cleaner works good, i also cleaned up the whole inside of my cover, it was kinda nasty.

scottydoggs, just to be clear, do I use the brake cleaner to clean everything under the cover? any other chemicals that work as well?

not sure, but brake cleaner at $3 a can works well, and it evaporates fast and leave the area clean and dry. i sprayed a rag and then wiped the heads down.

and yes brake cleaner will work just fine for cleaning the inside of the valve cover. engine de greaser also works well.

replaced front gasket and grommets yesterday! couldn't get to the back yet.
there were lot of stuff that needs to be moved away from the cover in the back..any tips?

Tips..

Do you have the california emissions? (take a pic of the back cover area so we can see if you do)

Perform more frequent oil changes, your rockers look very dark. Changes will clean that up nicely over time.

Basically you unbolt a few things, they pop out of the way and it's done.

I don't believe so..but I will post the pic later today.
I've been changing oils every 3000~3300 for last 3 years. I don't know how often the previous owner did..but more often?
Will a certain brand help cleaning that too? I thought of it being a little dark too, but given the age...

DONE! thank you all for your help and encouragements!

I took the picture of the back side for you, BillBoost37 :)

I'm open to trying anything if it makes sense -- can I ask why you'd recommend it?

Technology of Clean Engines & Motor Oil ? Pennzoil

Synthetic Blend vs. Full Synthetic Oils ? Pennzoil

Suppose to have special chemicals in it to help clean and maintain and engine to reduce sludging and corrosion and various other things. Hence some reading material. Could be worth a shot, I have heard great things about Penz, but also heard some horror stories. Altho, I (being a GM Parts Slinger) have heard horror stories and seen bad effects from VARIOUS oil uses... so w/e
