Interesting stalling problem..yes I know resistor, but please read new devolepment

I have a 1997 GTP and I have been having the stalling issue. But NOT constant... it will start perfect cold, then run fine. after driving around town and whatnot it will start then run, then off, back on....shake then stall out. Well what my GF did was open the fuse box cover, press in all the relays, and viola! it runs and runs good. Again if the issue comes back, I push in the fuel relays, and again, fires right up!
Well today, it happened again (im waiting on the resistor so I can get that done) I looked under the hood as I told my GF to fire it up and I saw a spark come from underneath near the front, from what I think is the starter...am I correct in that notion?
but who else here finds it odd that i have to press in the relays then it runs? I also tested this where I take out the resistor relay and it still runs fine, in idle of course. I didn't run it without. I am confused with this thing. It gets its fuel delivery, the pump is fine. just the odd relay issue. Well, and that spark I see.
Any ideas????

check the ground wires and the starter wires are on tight, a spark down there can really only mean theres a loose wire.

on the fuse box door theres a fuse map, what relay are you playing with?

i feel that i need to get a multi-meter on the fuse box....what ohms should i be looking for? what would be normal?

will do. maybe I am thinking about swapping that, the filter, and the resistor kit, just for precaution.
but what should i look for with the multimeter?

i know nothing about electric testing and such. its some thing i need to pick up on one of these days.

you can switch the relays around, the ones that are the same. that will tell you if its working right or not.

If her pressing on the relay makes it start, then that leads a guy to think that there's a bad connection in that area. Pull the relays one at a time and make sure the contacts aren't corroded. Then try and figure out which one is causing the issue. With a small screwdriver/pick, try and bend it tighter so that the connections are better. I've seen situations where bad connections cause fires.

Thats what I was thinking with the connections being loose. However, with the stock relay in there it was tighter (still same issue where you would press it in) I will go in there today and get those prongs tighter and that starter cable tightened. The resistor kit comes in today...should that even be swapped at this point considering this is NOT a constant stalling issue?

resistor is in...nothing! it is still having the issue. still stalls. yesterday i fiddled with the fuse box before swapping the resistor, and it still would stall, i inspected the fuse box and it is all in tact, idk what to do anymore. today will be a new fuel filter. the pump seems to be working fine. it primes before starting. but i noticed when the car is running the priming sound is loud...thoughts?

YUP done with this pos of a vehicle. i put the fuel filter in and still same problem but worse. no leaks, nothing its installed the way it should be. new relays, new resistor kit, pump works fine maf is new. these are just horrible cars. i am fed up with this thing.

They shure are,I will buy it off of you for 1$:th_biggrin2:

Dont get frustrated at it, its bound to be something simple.Sounds like a definite wiring issue.Take the fuse box off and check the backside of it.Also, how do you know the pump is fine? How did you test it?

the pump is fine by hearing it prime and pump like it should. i checked out the back of the fuse box by taking it off, and looking and checking the connections. at this point im thinking the fuel regulator, or some ignition problem...after starting/shutting off after a while it will work like nothing is wrong...bipolar car is what i have.

so i scan the car and i get p306 cyl 6 misfire...but still doesnt explain why i would shake the fuse panel and it would work. i took out the IAC and saw a lot of carbon build up. i cleaned it with some electrical connector cleaner, cleaned its housing and put it back. no stalls YET....i am waiting. we'll see what happens. possibly might go on craigslist VERY VERY soon

if shaking the fuse box makes it stall, id think somethings either loose, or a bit on the cooked side. maybe time to swap the fuse box.

well after cleaning the IAC saturday morning and i mean clean! it runs fine. no stalls, no hesitation. nothing. the plus side is that i did the resistor relocation, the fuel filter, etc... so doing that will prevent anything stupid happening again.

well i spoke too damn soon. this pos is stalling again.
traveling about 72 mph, lost power for a sec the rpms dropped, gassed it, ran for a mile before stalling out. pulled over on the freeway and started like nothing is wrong. wtf is going on with this damn car?!
