Intercooling Questions "more added"

whats up everyone i just graduated high school on the 12th and im going to start working full time, so ill have a little more $$ in my pockets. i thinking about going intercooled, i would do every thing at once because i need to replace my LIM gaskets and i have to install my polished GenV so i figured if im gonna go intercooled now would be the best time to do it.

i already did some research on here and i know the SS intercooler is not worth the money so im defiantly going to go with the S2.

QUESTIONS:

1.will the S2 intercooler fit under my SD hood with a GenV S/C?

2.where should i buy my intercooler from? (i dont want to buy parts from a bunch of different places, i think id rather buy it all in a kit.)

3.what gaskets should i go with? (i heard the Garloc's leak)

4.if i go intercooled will i eventually need a built trans? (running maybe a 3.1" pulley)

:th_divider::th_divider::th_divider::th_divider::th_divider::th_divider:

So i bought my IC its a S2, i still need to get a few more parts for it to complete.

New Questions:

1. What pulley size would be best for me with these mods. (more mods will come soon but as of right now this is what ill be running)
-S2IC
-180* t-stat
-AL104
-Lucas 42.5 injectors
-GenV
-L67
-Pacesetter headers
-SLP CAI
-N* TB
~and of course a tune after i decide what pulley size to go with

2. How should i go about my LIM?
~ Should i block off the coolant passages that go through the TB? because the IC doesn't allow coolant to go through the core
~ And how would i get a working PVC so i dont have to run a VC breather? on a N* TB most likely (yes, i read the sticky in the "how to section" i would just like more info on it)

Re: Intercooling Questions

I just bought IC kit from wbody store and it looks great. eventually I might get a better fmhe. Im still waiting on fuel rails to install it. I heard zzp and wbs are basically the same kit and wbs is like 200 cheaper so I went that route. I think youll need bigger injectors to run anything past a 3.2" pulley. Eventually the trans will probly need a re-build, but you might be alright if you take good care of it.

Did you ever finish your blower?

Re: Intercooling Questions

OP:

1) Never looked into it. Might have better luck with the phenolic core from the guy on here. its shorter than other vendor options.

2) Up to you, I dont like how any of the vendor FMHEs mount. a rad from a 92 golf with A/C would be a nice substitute. It'd let you keep the rad shrouding in place to promote better cooling.

3) kits come with gaskets, use RTV instead.

4) Depends how your transmission handles the power. Also depends on how much you abuse it.

Re: Intercooling Questions

im looking into getting an S2 IC off a guy on here, its used but looks to be in good shape im getting a Bosch pump brand new, with new core bolts, S/C belt, and Lucas 42.5 injectors for a pretty good deal. i will still need to buy lines, a heat exchanger and maybe a few other items to complete the kit.

with this headers, 180 tstat, and a tune what size pulley would you guys recommend i run (with a GenV S/C)

and Ricky no im still working on it, i got very far with it though. for a little bit i was focusing on my 52 ford p/u project.

Re: Intercooling Questions

Eddie, a good friend of mine is selling a full size stage 2 kit, FULL KIT for cheap.

Re: Intercooling Questions

Helped a buddy put a fullsize intercooler on his GTP and it did NOT clear the SD hood. We ended up putting cradle spacers on it.

With the right tune on a fullsize with those injectors 3.0. Otherwise start with a 3.25 and work your way down. Yes block the passages in the TB. As far as a working PCV I'm not to sure.

1) how has your car responded to mods thus far?

If very well, you might be closer to 3.0, if not so much, closer to 3.3, maybe even 3.4.

2) The thread explains what needs to be done quite clearly.

On the coolant: Wouldn't the TB adapater block coolant as well as the intercooler core?

Just plug the LIM and open up the port behind that end cap.

i was thinking a 3.25 at the lowest because im not trying to rebuild my trans just yet lol

my car has been running good with the mods i have, i only have a gen 3 with a 3.5, plog, zzp catless DP, SLP CAI, and a stock tune (i know i must be getting some KR but i barely ever even beat on it)

and i defiantly dont wanna drop to low in pulley size and **** up my trans, i still need to talk to Dave from TEP about my mods and if my stock tranny can handle it for a while

im eventually looking to put a cam in

If youre not putting drag radials on it or gonna be at the track much a shift kit will be fine with a 3.0 pulley and proper tune but with stock cam/rockers I dont think youll get too far below MAYBE a 3.1 (these cars are so different you never really know)... did mine for over a year with no tranny issues...

Another thing... why not just run a breather??? are you worried about performance loss or something???

I didn see a modular pulley system on your list... add it... youll thank me later... ;)

open up the inlet of the lim, tap the coolant passages and open up the back passage way for more coolant flow to the back. smooth out the inlet the best you can.
