Intercooling Options

bedwards,

i have the ssic setup from zzp with a stage 3 fmhe, i have yet to install it as i want everything to be figured out before i do. it is my daily driver.

so far from what i can see, the only clearance issue is where zzp puts the fpr on the ssm90 fuel logs (the front log) and the fuel line already is rubbing on my hood brace. the fix as far as i can see would be to move the fpr to the back log which would allow for clearance (this is how zzp non ssm90 fuel logs come)

the other thing would be belt size obviously cause your moving the pulley up.

for the actual functionality, its going to depend on how hardcore you want to go with your car.

as for the "i can touch the s/c after 20 wot runs" i dont understand how this is possible as the intercooler is cooling the air after the s/c. so logically the s/c is still drawing in ambient temperature air.

Thanks for the reply. On my SS M90, the FPR is on the back logs. I have a feeling the clearance issue would be that the FPR being raised up 2.5" would cause it to hit the hood. I'm curious if IRC would make a core to match the size on the SSIC, but use the better material (superior to ZZP's) to prevent heat soak.

Email Marty, the owner. He will literally make anything within reason that you can draw up. Their IC is already shorter than the stage 2 ZZP so you might want to see if it will fit, find out the clearances. As I said before the bar and plate design is much better than ZZP's so if you had a SSIC and a similar size IRC bar and plate the bar and plate would be much more efficient.

I have the ZZP fuel logs. That's why I'm confused why a 2.5" intercooler won't fit. ZZP claims there are clearance issues. I have no idea what that means. I wonder if the machined lower intake is higher than a stock one? In that case, it may not clear the hood. You apparently need injector spacers with the intercooler as well (SSIC).

It will clear the hood, The issue isnt height clearance. Its the fact that our injectors are so close to the Blower because there in the LIM. Wbody dtores can be hacked down. I have no issue with my SSIC. I like it. Is it as good as a full size? NO. Does it do a decent job? yes

Actually the bar and plate has been tested and shown to be less efficient because of the size

But wouldn't injector spacers solve that problem? I must not be understanding this properly. Lol.

Were you able to drop a pulley size with the SSIC, and stay KR free?

No because because the core is where the injectors are. You have to Notch the core to go around the injectors. Im pretty sure the PCV passage is where a injector sits on the s2ic

I was able to run 20 degrees WOT timing on a 3.4 pulley on 93 pump gas with no valvetrain mods. You be the judge

Tell PRJ that.

I dont have to the Facts are out there. Like it or not. Im not saying there no good but look around there was just a huge post on club gp regarding. PRJ's core is a great core, Believe its the same thrasher uses. Its very expensive. Ive heard its comparable to zzps or W bodys stage two. All things being equal the fins better IMO. At least on these heatons. For a Heat exchanger bar and plate ftw

Here I did the research for you. Enjoy http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m=5389351&p=&mpage=1&tmode=1&smode=1&key=&language=single

Whole lot of "this guy said so" going on in there. :th_yawning:

Edit: unsure about WBS guy. Seems he might have a hair of honesty but still undecided. "we tested it" doesnt hold much imo.

Your fuel line will be tight to on the blower when you install the SSIC after you put the log with the fpr on the rear bank. i just put some pipe wrap around where it was touching the snout slightly
