Intercooler install questions?

Ok so I have a 2.25 inch intercooler and I was mainly concerned with the clearance issues... I don't want to do cradle spacers as I'm already lowered, and I was curious as to what exactly was needed... Does the alternator NEED to be removed? And do I really need that turn down adapter, I'm not trying to be cheap I just don't believe in paying or modding things I don't have to, I have an inferno hood that I just painted today so that should give me some hood clearance right? Zzp and w body store both kinda like to sell you things that you don't really need, I'm going to have to give them some money for the intake because 220 bucks for the machining and porting seems like a pretty good deal, but like the fuel rails? 10 bucks from a junkyard and a local performance shop cut them, and then fitted a section of stainless to bridge the gap, 30 bucks not 150 or whatever.. I work with fiberglass so modifying the hood seems like the easiest option if it's even necessary (I didn't paint the bottom yet just in case... Or could I shim the hood a tad then shim my fenders to match? How much clearance do we need to gain? I have access to a machine shop so.. Maybe I should shave a 1/16th off each side of the core housing? I think the turn down adapter and the alt relocation stuff def doesent look the greatest in the engine bay... Also using rtv for the s/c gaskets and intake gasket should gain another 3/16th maybe? And don't say not to the speed shop owner swears by it, says just about every gasket in his 7.90 bracket car is rtv, and he's spraying about a 750 shot.

How much of a difference does the turn down make? Because i looks to only stuck up 3/4 of an in higher than the highest spot on the rest of the engine, do you have an inferno hood?

I'm on a stock hood and checked clearance before I put the Turndown in and the hood couldn't shut

How far did it stuck up do you remember? Because with the inferno hood it sits substantially taller, I could grind and cut out the inner skin and then blend I back to where you if would look factory unless it's like a 3 inch gap when you go to close it, also was your core 2.25 or 2.5 inches? I work with fiberglass daily so I could do just about anything, I was actually going to make my own hood untill I got an inferno for 100 bucks (had to fix the points on it at the back of the hood some hillbilly dropped it I guess) I'd make glass fenders but I doubt there is a market for them one I made the mold. Haha.

Oh really? I def think I might be ok then, I'll try it without the turn down, if I need the turn down I'll just drive my truck for a coupe days, if I manage to get it to work without the turn down I'll def post a write up or something... Maybe shim hood hinges, then shim the fenders up to match or something and I think I'm keeping the hood, literally just sprayed the paint on it today. Actually it's not paint its Called duratech kinda like gelcoat but 1000 times stronger you can hit it with a hammer and it doesent chip and hit it with a torch and won't even phase it....

That still doesent answer my question on if it'll fit without it, no one has even tried with an inferno hood....

If I built it in a bonnivile then I wouldn't have an inferno hood, plus from what I've read I wouldn't be able to hook at all, cuz the weight distribution isn't as good as other w bodies.

Let me help you out here.. i have a 2" IC and my TB hit my stock hood.. i created a small dent in the cross member of the hood for it to clear.. now i ran this way for a long while with no problems... buuut now i have an Inferno hood and im not about to go putting a dent in my new freshly painted hood... so i bought a turndown used and have no problems.... now you are 1/4" taller then mine so you could have issues if you dont run one... but that is for you to decide if you want to cut or dent your new hood in order for it to fit

I'll probably just mod it, I didn't paint the underside yet and I work with fiberglass... Soooo should be able to make it look good
