Installing remote start on non-remote start car

My Dad has a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix base model and one feature he really likes about my 2008 Grand Prix is the remote start. I know the best option would be getting an aftermarket unit and installing it but I'm thinking that would give him two key fobs, so what I'm thinking is find an original equipment remote start to prevent this issue.

Is this possible to do? Has anyone tried it? If so how much does that cost?

Thanks for any input, as it's something I'd like to do for him down the road since he's helped me out with my car when things like the transmission failed.
 


find a remote starter that can lock and un lock the doors too. most will also have a security system as well.


you cant use a factory fob with remote starter if the car didnt come with a remote start set up.
 
Yes you can put in a factory remote start if you have an RPO code of AP8. You need the remote start capable BCM (from a car with the AP3 rpo, or a new one) and the correct fobs. Then take it to a dealer or someone with a TechII and have the BCM flashed to your car.

What are you referring to by "RPO code"?
 
open the trunk and on the under side theres a sticker with rows of codes. take a pic of it and then you can see if the rpo code for a remote start is there or not. that sticker is your build sheet sorta.
 
Sorry to revive an old thread but is there another place to find the RPO codes? When I bought my Grand Prix, the trunk lid was all smashed up so I grabbed one from a junk yard. That was years ago so I don't have the original lid and I don't know anything about the car I pulled this one from.
