I think I'm in big trouble, knocking sound from engine....

Driving home today and just before I got home I had to pass someone and when doing so I heard a knocking noise come from the engine.

Got home popped the hood and heard this knocking noise coming from the engine, seems louder on the passenger side near the pulleys.

Hooked up my phone with Torque to check for KR, not sure if that means anything but i have 0 KR like usual.

Let it sit for awhile, started it back up and if anything its louder. Sounds like "rod knock" or something serious.

So......am I fuuKed?
 


That's what I'm thinking. I've heard that same exact noise from 2 different 3800's and both ended poorly.
 


just for sh*t and grins look at the balancer and see if the rubber has ripped had that problem on my gtp and I thought the motor let go
 
Possible flexplate? Just because its not super constant like the video slick posted

Look at the harmonic balancer, if the rubber is ripped/torn it will make a noise like someone sticking a wooden spoon in a box fan.
Jack up car remove dust cover and visually inspect the flexplate from under the car.
 
jayroca tried the flex plate game too and ended up buying a 2nd gtp i realize its not the same vehicle but id be damn suprised if its anything besides the bottome end.

Tell you the same thing i did him instead of start it and rev it 30 times to try figure out what it is do the easy things pull the plugs check them drop the oil and see if its glittery, then pull the cover by the flex and see if its cracked or broke the bolts off.

when my hb went I was in boost and it sounded like a rod let go even took the belts off and still rattled but mine seemed to go away when u got into full boost because it would lock into place I though forsure when I heard it the motor was done looked in the wheel and found balancer.jpg
 


its time to give one up for the gipper it seems.

get him a new power plant. if you drive or run it longer it will sound like slicks vid.

check all the other things listed too. all relevant.

but it does sound like a rod bearing to me too.
 
Ok not starting it anymore, although I think I have confirmed my fears. I checked the dipstick and found some sparkles in it. Not a ton, but enough to notice.
