• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I think I'm in big trouble, knocking sound from engine....

169k miles. What really sucks is I took VERY good care of it and is otherwise in perfect condition (minus a few dings you know).

Literally everything works on it, tranny shifts perfectly and so on.

This would be the second 3800 that took a dump on me, first was my bonneville which made it to 180k miles.

I'll probably sell the car and get the wife a new SUV. I'll drive her TL instead.

I'm over these 3800's.....

CHECK YOUR BALANCER! Just like the previous posts, take off your belts reach in and see if the balancer moves. If it does that means the rubber is shot and you will have to replace it. My GTP sounded the same and well it was the balancer :)

I'll do that but I found metal "sparkles" on the dip stick. Pretty sure I spun a bearing.

I was at first too, Tyler and I both said to check the oil, and I agree with Tyler he should drain the pan, 5 quarts of oil and a filter is like $20 at walmart.

Wanna know the easy way to tell if it's a motor?

It sounded like it might be and then stopped starting nice. Balancer shouldn't cause that, flex shouldn't cause that.

90% sure from the vid, it's a motor. Definately though.. give it a quick rev ...the noise a lower end makes on decel is unmistakable

Just checked another video I had made, its makes a lower pitched "knock" on decel but it makes a higher pitched "knock" on accel. Pretty sure its toast, especially with finding some sparkles in the oil.

I will obviously check the balancer just for ****s and grins.

Thanks for the help guys

So ill ask again drained the oil yet? Or you could make a whole bunch more videos and keel reving it until it punches a hole out the skirt of the block when it locks up.

I haven't started since day one Vet........it was an old video.

And no, I haven't drained the oil. I've been too busy but I'll be sure to do that.
