GPF Mr. President
My brother just got a new Pioneer radio for the GT so we went to the local audio shop to pick up the dash kit and wiring kit. We get there and the dude tells us it's $30 for the dash kit, $20 for the wiring kit, and $10 for the antenna converter. So that was a little to steep. We only get the dash kit since other places were around the same price. We also get the antenna converter because we didn't know another place to get it. We pass on the wiring kit.

We went next to meijers and saw a wiring kit + antenna converter for $8. We saw the dash kit for $15. They are a company called Scoshe which was advertised in my local audio store.. I go back to the audio store after I pick them up from meijers. It hasn't even been twenty minutes since I left the store. I go to them and ask for my money back or to at least to match the price of what I picked up from them and they said no can do. So my brother got stuck paying $30 for part of what he needed when he could've paid $27 for everything. Needless to say, I'm never going back again.

scosche is a VERY cheap, total budget crap from what i've seen, there dash kits are JUNK!! They never fit right, break easy and are always universal. There wiring is normally incorrect, especially on Premium sound models of ANY car made. The only thing worth buying is the antenna adapt. Stick with stuff from your car audio store. Price does matter and you know once you buy a few. I've probably installed over 200 head units and 100 full systems, with half of them including all powered component sets and i've used many brands. But they are by far junk. DO NOT buy there GM kits cause they stick out of the dash about 7 inches!

the scosche dash kit that i got is pretty much crap too. it had the wrong directions, was missing the top two brackets, and the bottom two barely fit if i remember right. it sticks out of the dash a really good amount too, probably a good 3 inches. that being said, it holds my stereo and the wiring hooked up right. car audio is the best example of get-what-you-pay-for that i've found.

Yes it was Civic Audio and the dash kit they gave me sticks out about 3 inches too. It really pissed me off. And that's not the first time they ripped me off. I gave them an amp to have fixed. Paid $25 to have it shipped and was told it would be a week. I called every week for 7 weeks until they brought it back claiming I didn't want it fixed.... Seriously? After 7 weeks of me calling they end up bringing it back and really pissing me off.

The scoshe wiring kit I bought we hooked up today with no problem at all. The adapter for the antenna fit perfect and now it's playing my new Pioneer. Why in the world would I pay $20 for wires and then $10 for the antenna?

My cousin needed a wiring kit for his car, so he went to best buy (Civic Audio's competition) and bought the same wiring kit that they offered me for $22, we bought it and then went and bought the $8 one from meijers. Compared them and they were the exact same thing. He used the $8 one and hasn't had a problem since. I don't know man, I know you get what you pay for but paying $60 for something that you could've gotten for $22 is just ridiculous in my book.

sounds like you just have a terrible car audio shop out to screw everyone lol. I've used some of there harness's in the past and had no issues, but on the more complicated ones i've had them not work at all (JBL Sound in Fords especially) but for GM harness's i've never actually had issues.

yea i knew it was them, ive had the same problem before too.
way over priced and the people there just want to take your money
i had to argue with them for a hour and give them a "restocking" fee to get cash back. best buy's pretty good, check out abc warehouse too in the future, i always get good deals there, you can haggle with the guys a little too:th_thumbsup-wink:

Am I the only one that thinks the price situation is your own fault?
They can price it at 100$ and if your not smart enough to check prices/brands first than it's your own fault.

Sounds like you tried to cheap out and you got what you paid for in your haste.

Not being a hater,I work part time in automotive retail parts and we see this all the time.

Damn man, if i only knew, i got a wiring harness and dash kit i woulda sold to you for like 10 bucks. Walmart has everything you need for dirt cheap too.

Yea my brother was in a hurry because he was so excited for his new head unit. He later blamed himself but it's whatever now I guess.

And DannyGTP, you actually got your money back?? How dumb the only thing they told me is I would be able to get instore credit and still be charged a stupid 20% restocking fee... Seriously? 20% to restock an item? ok...

Everytime I ask them something at that store they always pull the excuse: "That's Gibralter cheap ****" or "It won't last long, it falls apart" Blah blah blah. I see what you mean now, they only want your money..

Dam I wish I would've asked for one before going out and buy ing stevenk8, your right around the corner I swear! Where are you living in Macomb?

I personally think a restocking fee is ignorant as hell, but can understand instore credit.
With things being so cheap online nowadays, not to mention getting to skip out on sales tax-local businesses need to concentrate on customer service more.

I once got charged a restocking fee because someone sent me the wrong part.
I ordered a custom grille surround, and the custom grille that fit it.
They sent me an overlay grille for a stock surround.
WTF?
But I have to pay a restocking fee? How do you screw that up?
I bought the entire front clip and specifically asked for that certain grille.
How is that my fault?
Sometimes you eat it for customer service.
(hell, actually ALOT of times you eat it for customer service especially most corporate retails)

I live at like 22mile and romeo plank. But dont even listen to people who tell you gibralter **** is garbage. i know all 3 guys there, they hook me up well and they give me amazing pricing on alot lf things, On top of that sometime they throw in warrentys for free.

car audio = scam audio.

for house audio, you can get it on the cheap because of pro sound equipment.

About this particular brands being sh*t debate... Most of these brands are ****, some are just less ****ty than the others. Find something that works that you can afford.

I have been a store/sales manager for 10 years, and I have had the "no shop here again" card played on me many times dealing with customers and returns, retail and wholesale. So now when I want to return something and I don't get my way, I kindly ask to talk to the manager and explain to them that if they don't do my return, I politely tell them I did enjoy shopping at thier establishment, but will not have to shop elswhere due to thier policy, when thier competitors will gladly refund my money for whatever the reason maybe.
I had to do this with Rockauto once, I even got my shipping refunded too. There was more to that story, but when I pulled the "competition does it" card, they dropped to thier kness and open thier mouths, WIDE.

The CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

The CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Not when the customer is say getting work done and the shop strips your wheel lock when using a breaker bar because you bought a cheap POS.

Or when you buy a candy, eat it, then go back to the guy and say you want your money back because you didn't enjoy it.

Or when you buy an air freshener and come back to the store without a receipt and say you want your money back after partially using it.

I love the customers who argue with me saying that "If this product does the same as this one, why is the other more expensive?"

Well... perhaps because they DON'T do the same thing. :th_shakinghead1: (Same brand too)
