FWD with little traction, I've had great luck with the stock trans myself. 11.0 @ 129 mph with weight reduction many runs no problems.Hi, so i have heard a lot of different things about the 4t65e hd transmission.
What i really want to know is how much HP can the stock tranny support, after that what mods need to be done to reach the next level, and what will that support etc...
YEEEEARS ago.. my 98 GTP went through 4 stock trannys covered under warranty in a 2-3 year period.
Only mods back then was 3.4", intake, ubend removed.. maybe rockers. Car was only the mid to high 13's.
Some of them would last a few months and only a few dozen runs at the track.
They would go bad while driving down the road or leaving from a stop and something would snap inside.
None of them blew a diff. Always bands and clutches just going to hell.
My PRJ trans got me about 6-7 years of use before started to show some slipping.
Down the road i might turbo it... but i know with trans mods thats going to run me about 4-5k. So for now im thinking headers, gutted factory CAI, and an IC, maybe e85. with what ever pulley i can get away with, maybe rockers.
im guessing thats about 250-260 whp But Im not sure. I drove a g37 a couple times this year as a loaner, and id really like the car to be in the same realm as that performance wise and i think id be happy for a while.
the trans on this car was just rebuilt, before my brother decided to stop putting money in the car when he got his a4.
If you plan on going turbo. Build the trans for it. This isn't a hard question. The trans WILL break at ~wTQ.. Its just a matter of when and how you drive.. DSmuts snapped his IS very very quickly, I on the other hand have not broke anything but I know its dying... I can feel it.
Quicker shifts.
Less contact times.
Longer trans life.
You crazy, Dannnnn.
