how to get out of a window tint ticket

Some of you may remember my thread on getting a permit to have tint that is illegal. For those of you who didnt see the thread, basically, i have super sensitive eyes to light, so sensitive, that the dentist has a memo on my account saying i need to wear sunglasses when getting my teeth cleaned. Now, this isnt the reason I got window tint, obviously. Got it for the look and to keep the car cooler in summer and have some privacy. I just got tired of getting stopped for window tint in all the cars i have had, its really the only thing the cops try to get me for. The last ticket i got, the officer said that I could get a prescription for tint from my doctor and take it to the highway patrol to get a special sticker and permit to have illegal window tint. So, went to my doctor, told him my condition, and he gave me a letter. It wasn't any good though because no where did it say i have a certain eye disease or condition. I just have light sensitivity. It also didnt prescribe a certain % window tint. So, i just kept the letter in my glove box just in case i got pulled over again to see if it worked.....which leads to the real point im typing this lol

Between work hours, I am coming back from that doctors office because of an appointment. I see the local cop sitting right on the city line trying to get speeders at the end of the month. This was rush hour traffic with cars all around me. I can see him eyeballing my car as it goes by, but i thought i was good cuz there was no way he could pull out, and he never did. I get stuck at a light up the hill and about 4 cars back i see what looks like the front of that crown vic cop car, but it looked blue, so i didnt worry. I get about halfway between that light and the next one when i see cop lights turn on behind me. GOD DAMNIT :th_nervous:. I knew he was pullin me over for the windows. Guy comes up to me on passenger side, and my stupid window wouldnt roll down so i had to roll down the rear.

Cop: "I pulled you over because of your windows. They look too dark"
Me: laughing and playing it cool* "man you guys just gave me a ticket for this like 2 months ago, you just can't leave me alone can you"
Cop: "well why haven't you gotten it taken care of? this is illegal"
Me: "well im not taking it off. I have a note from my doctor for it and i have sensitive eyes to light"
Cop: "im gonna come over to your side, sit tight"
Cop: "so your doctor gave you a prescription for this?"
Me: " well, yeah, here it is right here" i pulled it outta my glovebox. At this point, the cop is dumbstruck and seemed like he didnt know what to do lol
Cop: "oh, ok, um....so he gave you this letter for your window tint heh"
Me: "yeah last cop said i could get a a letter from the doctor and it would be ok" (obviously im lying lol)
Cop: " well you have to get a permit from the highway dept. do you know this doctor well?" (im guessin he was wanting me to be dumb and say no i just met him and make it look like i just went to some random doctor, got a letter, and left)
Me: "well yeah, my whole family goes there. I'm actually just coming back from there" (i had my medicine right in the seat with me)
Cop: "how dark are your windows?"
Me: "15 front 5 in back"
Cop: "got your insurance on you?"
Me:" yep, here u go"
Cop: "okay......well.....im gonna give you a warning for it but you need to get a permit for it so we don't pull you over again. have a good day" never did he give me that yellow slip of paper for the warning so i doubt he logged it into his computer, since he never even asked for my drivers license.

As i drove off laughing, I was so impressed with myself that the letter actually worked, and got me out of a $100 window ticket. who knows, it may work again. The cop really didnt know what to do lol I mean, how many people whip out something like that when they get pulled over? Not many :th_thumbsup-wink:

i know in MN it is the same way. I think there are going to be some people going to the doctor now because I heard MN passed a new law making all tint on vehicles illegal after the first of august
 
even with a permit you will still get pulled over in the future unless there is a sticker on one of the windows showing your exempt

Ok now does this mean that currently tinted cars have to strip the tint?
 
all i would say is go to a doctor and say ppls headlights behind you are blinding you, causing a saftey issue for yourself. tint really does tone that down ALOT.

Some ppl with delicate skin or whatever have gone to dermatologists and gotten prescriptions there as well
 




thats something im working on now. My truck has 35 on the whole windshield and 5 all around... local cops know me... im not worried about them... rather troopers when im smuggling drugs or illegals.
 
my sunroof is tinted from the factory :th_jester:

..but I think the factory tint is like 75% or something crazy like that....:th_laugh-lol3:
 
Thats awesome, and I remember reading the other story the first time this happened too.

Good advice. Usually I just call the family attorney, and never have to worry about stupid little tickets like that.
