Absolutely no effect at all...

Boost at all times and fueling not meeting it is counter productive. I'm only answering because I thought I would do my boyscout deed for the day.
 
Leave it alone and don't mess with it, as it has been said. You want to mod the car first do its regular maintenance, once that is done and running how it should 180 T-stat, Headers, Scan gauge, aeroforce or Scangauge II will do. Autolite 606 or 605s, homemade cai, if no KR then you can pulley drop 3.6 maybe a 3.4. dependign how far you ant to go but that is the basic starting point.
