How Much Money Do People Really Need!!??

Ok.. i'm bored here and figured i'd rant a little. was talking in another thread and someone mentioned this

(Exactly, if you're single 85k isn't horrible but if you're married with kids that suddenly turns to ****. With how expensive everything is these days if you've got kids and don't make at least 150k your wife needs a job too.)

Now, this is not a direct knock on anybody ie the person who said this. but really people.. how much money is needed to live comfortably?

i make around 85k a year, live in girlfirend who makes about 20k, and a son together. we live very comfortably. a nice house, big tv, sound system, eat great food (helps shes a good cook) blah blah blah. and i have plenty of money left over for toys. i got 69 chevy pu i'm restoring, got 90 chevy pu thats only got 60k original miles and runs great, 2007 kawasaki z1000 and 2004 kdx, both of us own a gtp, and my commuter car a buick park avenue ultra.

now, none of this stuff is what you could call top of the line toys, but it's all paid for, i owe nothing... only thing i pay a month is the mortgage and utilities.

also i do have to mention i'm sure where a person lives plays a big role. seen on tv some houses comparable to mine goin for 500-700k in some places.. absolutely absurd considering i paid 150k for mine. granted i do live in po dunk south dakota and in my community i'm above average on income. but i know plenty of people who's family income is around 50k and live just as good as i do because they know how to budget money. biggest difference between them and i is i shell about 15 percent of my income into retirement. AND I'M ONLY 23!!

what the hell is wrong with people!

it just seems to me anymore that people are just getting to lazy and want something for absolutely nothing. oh i got 4 kids so i get this and this and this for free and this at a steep discount picked up on MY tab (hard working middle class tax payers)

get off your asses and do something to better your self or put a shotty under your chin and help us all out

sorry, starting to get a lil off orignal topic but i just see the "worlds greatest nation" goin to hell in a hand basket

sorry in advance for any i may have offended but my opinion

can't wait to see what controversy this brings

dude, i lived in a 200k house with my parents and brother on like 45k a year, it can be done. this 85k+ a year is ridiculous lol. props on the job man, that kinda money at 23, you're doing pretty well for yourself. where are you working?

enough money to buy all the things i want whenever i want. im not there yet and im making 52k a year. im only 24, but i like my toys and fun time stuff.

It really just depends on where you live and how you wanna live. Some people can live perfect on 20-50K some can't! They say the more money you make the more money you spend.

i definately agree with the more ya make the more ya spend... but you still gotta be smart about it

My figures were based on my area.

Here, a 2200 square foot detatched home on nearly no land is worth 350K.

Try buying that same house in Iowa then try buying the same thing in Beverly Hills.

Income you can live off of is DIRECTLY proportional to where you live.

Iowa rocks :th_thumb-up: Cheap to live. Farm land is pricey tho. Gotta love the hick towns. I think our population is around 9,000. One of my buddies I go to school with lives in a town of 150 on a good day.

depends on what part of the country you're from. cost of living up north is much more than the cost of living in the south.

that SUCKS. my house that i live in right now is a 4 BR, 1 BA, 1100 sq. foot cape cod with a brand new detached 2.5 car garage on a corner lot in a nice neighborhood in the city. it only cost us 162k and the people didnt even counter offer and we undercut them on their asking price.

family of 4 here own 2 houses 4 cars and we are piss broke but get by on 35k a year As i am in school and so is my wife
Now after schools done we will be in the 100k range And my toy collection will grow

Houses around here have gone up in price by 75% in 15 years. People said, "Oh that looks like a nice town" and now we've doubled the population in the same time.

I need to find a nice place that like... Less traffic, less expensive living, more land.:th_thumbsup-wink:

****! If u drive from one end of town to the other in KC u see a huge rise in mortage. Blue prob knows. Hell I'm a diesel mechanic for fedex bustin my ass workin 70 hrs a week just clearing 60K a year. That's plenty enough for me and mine. Got tons of cool toy money. Some people just like to spend

South Dakota is awesome for housing prices. I was looking and found a 5 bedroom, 3 bath house, right near a lake on a decent sized lot for $209k. It was a very nice house too. Like someone else said, farm land is getting expensive. Alot of doctors and such are buying it up to use for hunting or hunting lodges are buying it for rediculous amounts. It makes it tough to get buy for a farmer. A kid I know just bought 100 acres and he paid $3000 an acre. It is pretty tough to make money on that land by the time you figure equipment and other costs. Land near my grandparents has been going for around $3500 an acre. The closest town to them is 45 mins away too.

Wow, comparing everyones house prices to where i live, i couldn't imagine getting a house for 150-200k. I live in Greenwich Ct and a basic single family house is 600k to multi million dollars.

F**K this town. End of story.

The wife just graduated last dec. Before she grad. we made a combined of 35k maybe, now combined we both live off of 55k and Just bought our first home last Sept. 2000sq foot house for 109k. 3 BR 2.5 Bath, and 2 Car Garage. I've got some toys but nothing like other people.

I'm alot more comfortable now since the wife has a decent paying job. But I do spend alot more now too.

I guess everyone else posted from South Dakota so... I make 30K and my girlfriend makes 30k we have 2 kids. I paid 48K for my house its a 3 bedroom 2 story and it has 1400 sq ft with a 2 car garage. I live in a good neighborhood with the park and a school within a block oh and my neighbor is a county sheriff.
I have a hard time paying for everything right now on the money we make because I pay $415 a month in childcare. My girlfriend and I both have car payments and my insurance is outrageous (heath care, car insurance and life insurance). My hours got cut at my job and when you live in a town with a population of 400 people there isn't much around for a second job.
It kinda makes me sick to see what other people make a year for money and how most don't have anything to show for it. I have a couple friends that are single and make 80k+ a year. They both live together in a house that was bought for them and they both have nothing. One drives a 87 ford pickup and the other drives a chevy corsica. They have a couch and a TV and there own beds but other than that there house is empty. I have a reason to be broke right now because my 30K a year job to a 20K a year job and I might take home 12K after all the deductions. They both clear 80K and can't have any bills and ask me for gas money sometimes. It just blows my mind, where can all that money go, how can you spend $1500 a week on nothing then ask someone who makes $1200 a month with two kids for $20 for gas?
