How much chain slack should a double roller have?

I just put a used rollmaster double roller in my car yesterday. It has about a quarter inch of chain slack which seems like to much i would think? I'm going to take it out to look it over, any ideas? I know i need a key for the crank since the sprocket has a lot of free play, i checked the chain alignment it was good. Maybe i bought a very well used chain, or am i missing something?
 


Took it back off before i had to go to work. If the crank sprocket is against the crank the chain isn't tight chain at slight angle. When i slide the sprocket out the chain aligns and is somewhat tight. Is the crank sprocket supposed to be seated against the crank? I noticed markings on the crank key for adjustment. Also the sprocket has lots off free play, so I'm going to try to pry the key up so the sprocket will be snug. When i took the old crank sprocket off it slide off with ease so that's another concern. Any advice on this would be very helpful : )
 
As far as slack goes, mine had a tiny bit in the chain.Not much tho, and the crank sprocket needs to have the factory camfer machined into it for it to seat correctly.
 
I had the sprocket machined put it on and it still has a lot of slack. I'm assuming it was well used before i got it. I will have to look the chain over next. Thinking about going back to a stock timing chain. Has anyone else had this problem?
 
Has anyone inspected one with some miles on it? I watched a video online of a rollermaster that has been ran for a while showed the same amount of slack, as mine. The chain on the sprockets have no slack which is a good sign, and the chain is straight. Debating to run it or not hmmmm....lol
 
to be fair its the burrs on the gears. if you deburr the gears properly before install it installs much easier as the chain isnt super damn tight. about 3/16ths play.

brand new chain on 15k gears gave me nearly 3/8ths play.

stock chain without tensioner ive measured as far as 3/4" the stock chain wears the powdered metal gears real quick, so even a new chain on used oem sprockets (about 70k) still had nearly 1/2" play

dont worry about it till that chain can move 3/4"
