How many bellhousing bolts are in the transmission of a 99 gtp holding it to the engine...I got 5 out but the tranny still won't budge.

I'm not sure of the amount, but I know there's a bracket up between the engine and transmission holding them together. And did you unbolt the TC from the flex plate?

ummm all i did was take 5 bolts out of the bellhousing....I have to unbolt the tc from the flexplate?

i'm new at this but i think there are four bolts holding the flexplate on to the flywheel...so i guess i could remove those and everything should come out easy then....

How else are they to separate? :th_thumbsup-wink:

Three bolts, I think. And the flex plate kinda is the fly wheel. You're unbolting the flex plate from the torque converter input turbine.

What do you mean?

I think near the bellhousing end of the tranny a bracket goes from the the tranny to the engine block. It's on the under side.

Yeah thanks a lot for the help man, im used to maunals and all you have to do there is take out the bellhousing bolts and then the transmission somes out...because the Clutch is bolted onto the flywheel...At least i learned something from all of this lol....and yeah i ment flexplate to torque converter....flywheels are for manuals...

any tips for rotating the flexplate? what about a using a prybar to rotate the flexplate...u know like moving it a little by the flexplate teeth

are you talking about the flexplate inspection cover? under the car?

Yep. Take it off and you can access the bolts one at a time. To spin it, put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt.

yea i guess that would be better....it just may be kinda hard to acess it.

do you know what size the ummm....the nut that is in the center of the brake rotor is? Im gunna need to take the axles out soon ...it's that big nut...it's at least an inch

'tis metric... a 26mm i think, but dont quote me on that.

i think there is also a bolt on the back side of the motor/tranny that the head side is on the motor side, threading into the belhousing....

ya should have a haynes manual, man

yea i got the bi*** bolt...really wasent as hard as most people make it sound...took the crosover off and was able to get to it fine...didnt have to use 5 extensions or even take the rear header off.

i dont belive i have a socket that big so i will have to go buy one i guess.

In a pinch, you can use a large flat blade screwdriver to "walk" the flywheel around to get to the three bolts. Sure it takes a while, but it gets the job done.

There are eight bolts that hold the flywheel/flexplate to the engine.
Three bolts hold the Torque converter to the flywheel/flexplate
There are seven bolts that hold the transmission to the engine.

The Axle nut can vary, and I think it has a lot to do with whether or not you have bought or have aftermarket/replacement axles for it. But they seem to be either 34 or 36mm. Mine actually had one of both. I just replaced one axle on my boss's bonneville and I believe it was 34mm.

Guess I was a little late to the show and have not fully woke up this morning. Bad day yesterday and I decided I was going to sleep in.

Oh well, I was responding to your PM TDCRacing, sorry I was so late to respond.

oh no problem scotty,

those seven bolts for the tranny, when i got the 5 out of the bellhousing it took me forever to find the other 2 that were connected to the other end of transmission. but i got it. engine is out.

but i tore my cv boot and may have broke a cv joint....yeah and all i was doing is taking the tranny out...leave it to me to mess something up lol...how do i tell? and if it's not broke can i just get another boot? all of the grease came out though.

this is my first time ever messing with cv's so sorry for all of the ignorance.

thanks again for all of the replys...and yes brian i just used the screw driver and it worked like a charm
