How many tranny bolts?

does anyone have any tips on getting the crank bolt out without air tools? is it reverse thread or the regular righty tighty-lefty loosy?...you have to take the crank pulley off to change the cam correct? And once i get the bolt out will the crank pulley come off pretty easy?

I used a gun but if you remove the flywheel inspection cover you can have one person hold it with a prybar while you loosen the crank bolt. It's regular thread.

Sometimes that crank bolt can be a real bear to get off. I've had to use a torch sometimes to put heat on the bolt and soften up the threadlocker.

well got the bolt out. used a 1/2 bolt through the flexplate and a 5 lb hammer...cupple swings and it came loose. tried it before like that but it didnt work...guess i got lucky.

no i dont have a puller...looks like i need the ones with the 3 arms...i have a regular dampner puller but its the one that uses the bolts that thread into the ballancer (where the pulley would bolt into).

so i guess i will rent one.

you need to thread three bolts into the dampner. If you are talking about using a three jaw puller you will wreck the dampner with one of those.

ok well i did notice that the part on the dampner that i would be gripping with the claws is pretty weak looking.

I looked inside the dampner and I didnt realize that is how it works.

let me go see if the dampner i have will work...

well the puller i have the bolts are to big. The bolts used to thread into the dampner look very small and also appear to be a very fine thread. Any Ideas on where to get the correct puller from? or what size bolts? Because i belive the one that i have i got from autozone (ya know i rented it just never brought it back)

so there likley to give me the same one or one similar that contains the smae size bolts.

Find a 1/4 drive socket that will fit in the hole where the bolt was. You'll need it there because most main bolts on those pullers aren't long enough. You'll need 3 1/4" - 28 bolts about 3" long and some washers.

ok you lost me on the socket part. I should be able to get some bolts from lowes or home depot that size and that are long enough right? or not. I know they don't have a wide selection. Im pretty sure my puller will work as long as i have the right bolts.

ok by main bolt you mean the bolt in the middle of the puller that you actually screw in. gotcha, I'm pretty sure the one on my puller is long enough

I got mine from Lowes. There is a metric thread that works too but I forget which.

You'll see when you go to put the puller on that the center bolt isn't long enough to reach the back of the balancer so you have to put a small socket in there so the center bolt has something to rest on.

Stick a socket in the hole backwards, trust me.

you need to stick something in the hole that is as long or longer than the threads in the hole. Otherwise the puller will contact the threads and ruin them.

M6 - 1.00 75mm is what's on the bag my bolts came from. I left it in the box with the puller in case someone asked ;)

You woulda never thought it would of been me lol....thanks for the help guys! I will update when i make a trip to lowes.

Hey bud, I have a write up in the How To section from when I replaced my CPS and it gives all the details and information you need on getting that crank pulley off if you still need the information.
