How long will an L67 last?

My 01 GTP with the original l67 just rolled 112,000. My mods include an s1x cam, gen v, headers, etc. I am also piecing together a full size IC. Now I'm contemplating on buying heads.. Nothing too serious, maybe some cnc or stg 2 heads with 105's. I'm assuming my 112k bottom end should hold up if tuned correctly? It runs just dandy now.. Just like if not better than it did at 41k miles when I bought it back in early 07... Any thoughts? Should I proceed with the build?

Hahaha... When going IC and heads, that IS serious, lol

Personally I think it all depends. Going the route you are implys you will RACE the car and push it to extremes, with that comes risk, are you staying eight the S1X? With that added power you wil also be at the need for a built tranny... Etc. just my $.02

Yup, staying with the s1x.. This will not be a race car, I just want more power for the street. I get on it from time to time, but overall I drive it pretty conservatively.

Seems like going heads and IC route you may need to be interested in a tranny soon IMO. Instead of paying that much for CNC heads what about having a machine shop do a mild port and polish? But your bottom end should hold up but again there's always a exception.

Tranny is in mind as well.. Once my stocker takes a dump.. Was looking to have a machine shop port the heads but I don't know of any around where I live that have any experience with 3800 head porting. I also had a reputable source tell me recently that I am better off just buying some cnc heads than looking and trusting a machine shop to port mine.

If built and tuned correctly your bottom end will be perfectly fine. If you are willing to spend $2,000 on heads just go turbo and save more money.

A reputable machine shop around my area quoted me like $200 to do a port and polish but of course I'm going to have him check the heads for cracks Along with the valve guides so ill be a little bit more. Food for thought though P&P way cheaper than a 1k+ CNC heads. You could always send them off the be ported as well.

Headgaskets never go bad (on a rare case they could), and I would mod a highmiles motor, it can take it.

A mild port to the heads and cleaning the runners on the intake manifold can do alot. Said shop doesnt need to be one thats done many 3800's before.
