The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
Ok I ordered the morel 5.25 coaxial speakers (not component set). They should be here this week.
I HAZ QUESTION: When installing the new speakers, what should I do with the factory tweeters? Should I unplug them or just leave em plugged in or buy some new ones?
If your not going to amplify, the factory wires will still give power to the tweeter, although its not a big deal if you choose to disconnect it. If you are going to amplifiy, you should run new wires, and not worry about reconnecting the tweeter.
Ok the Morels are in and sound great! I ended up leaving the tweeters unplugged. I think I will replace the tweeters with some 6 ohm 1" replacements eventually. (the stock ones are 1" right?)
Dynamat was not installed... too complicated with how our speakers are mounted. (Wheres an easy place you think I should put it? I have two 10"x10" sheets)
There was some aftermarket wiring going on in the doors, just to the 5.25's. Kinda interesting.
ALSO it sounds like one of my Kenwood 4" 3-way speakers may be rattling already. I will keep an eye on it. Otherwise coming along nicely!
Honestly....seal the doors with dynamat/sound deadener/second skin/raamat...whatever product you choose. Next, don't use the stock tweeter and see if you like it, then use the stock tweeter and see if you like it. I have a feeling it might sound better without it. Once you seal up those doors, put a layer of ensolite between the door skin and panel. When replacing the mid...make a pancake out of duct seal right behind it making sure to put as many non symetrical shapes as you can on the surface.
