ive heard this both ways.....will HIDS melt the stock 880 foglight housings? ive heard yes and no....my projectors seems not as hot with HIDS than it did with halogens....so i dont get it....?
 


i have run my 35w HIDs in fogs for 4 days now. No signs of melting yet. But my housings are cheap to replace... so i really dont care... lol
 
My oem housing with stock 27w bulbs had started to melt (at the base of the bulb). Last year I replaced them with Blazer brand projector fog lights that still used the 800 series bulbs, a definate improvement over stock, and a few weeks ago I put a set of 35W hid ballasts in the fog projectors, they now definatley outperform the oem headlights.
 
The threads I have read through out the forums is that the stock fog lamp housing melted because the HID bulb was longer than the halogen bulb and would touch the lens.
 
I have the 8000k hid fog lights and they are starting to melt. They went from bright blue to a green tint cause they are stating to melt. If I only turn them on when i am driving they are ok. But if I have them on and just sitting after about ten min they get really hot. what are the best replacement foglight housing to buy where you can still ise your 880 bulbs?:th_scratchhead:
 


Blazer brand projector fogs with the clear lens (blue coating filters out blue light) will look small in fog light opening, but they have great output and a sharp cutoff for a fog light, and use the 800 series bulb.
 
i've warned many on this for years and many have not listened to me. Oh well, most have learned in time...

YES, 880 HIDs will melt OEM fog light housings in due time even with shorter blubs. I destroyed 2 sets of housings this way because I didn't want to listen to people who knew better. The only good solution, get Pilot housings or similair with glass lenses and metal bodies and use H1 blubs. Simple as that...

Pilots fit a bit better I think. I believe the blazers with 3.5", I know my Pilots are 4". I just about ran the blazers before I found the pilots.
 
I just bought the $30 pair at walmart they have a glass lens and work great. Ill be converting them to led when i get my hid projectors in.
 


FWIW, I put 37watt bulbs, I already had in mine and melted both fog assemblies. I got used replacements and put the 27watt back in.

I wanted to keep the ccar low budget, thus I did not upgrade. The silver metal reflector in the assembly acts as a heat shield and melts the opening because it wraps around the inside.

I put 37 watt bulbs in back in July and I have no problems at all. I was just looking for a clear non-blue non-ricer looking 4 inch housing.

You can get them at walmart or pep boys for about $30 to $40. The one's I have used in the past have a blue lens.

The part number for the pilots is NV-602W

Other people have use the autopia fogs that can be found on ebay.

Do they make a set of the pilots in clear? I don't want blue.
